Fielding issues

I'm constantly at odds with how fielding works. For example, a batter hits a pop up just behind and to the right of my 1st Baseman and the fielding assist points 3 arrows to 1st base to cover incase the 2nd Baseman blows the catch but when I try to push my anolog stick in the direction of the base, the player refuses to go due to how close to.his range it is. Have also had other plays get blown because my player steps into foul territory and I can't direct him back to the base.

You might have to turn off fielding assist.
