I've beaten the Phillies back to back times in the stronghold game and it doesn't register. Instead it takes 1M fans from me each time as if I lost the game.

I'm talking about the stronghold game. It won't count. I'm not playing it wrong lol. I've played this game every year since 2007.

I actually had a similar issue. I stole 3m fans from the Phillies and I didn't actually gain the fans, nor did they lose them.

You stole fair weather fans
