It's one of the biggest problems with the game. You can get the ball to your cather before the runner even starts his slide, but because the sliding animations are so smooth (good job), but the tagging animations are so slow, your never get the tag out.

The big slow swooping tag has to go. If you watch the replay there is even a slight pause in the animation allowing even more time for the runner. It should be a catch and then a full blown lunge towards the runner in attempt to tag him out. It's home plate, not second base.

I haven’t run into this all that often. Who are you using behind the dish? I think tagging animations are tied to the Fielding attribute. If you’re consistently having this issue with guys like Pudge, Mauer, Bench, Yadi, etc then I agree that SDS needs to address this. But if you’re using Foxx or piazza or someone like that then it’s probably (to borrow a fan-favorite phrase) “working as intended.”

It's the programmed 'nonchalant' tag that also prevents YOU from pulling off an unassisted DP, although the CPU gets them all the time against us. That is if you play offline.
It's sneaky BS that is put in to simulate difficulty.

It's January in the game cycle. They won't be fixing anything.

I think the outcomes are pre-determined, THEN you get a bad animation and the tag is missed.

It’s the sim aspect of the game that would need to be changed, imo.
