His card is already pretty amazing. And I agree with @brainfreeze442 that he is still regarded by most as the best pitcher in the game. He's got the nasty slider, above average H/9. 125 K/9 but really what makes him devastating is the fact that he's a 6' 10" lefty with Outlier and amazing speed differentials. I'm not much of an online player but If I have Randy on the bump I can win.
All that said, we are now in the world of multiple 99s. Last year I believe there were 2. Bryce Harper which the second one came out on Christmas and Vlad which I believe came after. It's early October and we already have 2 so I could see Randy getting a Finest. It might be completely unhittable..
Do you think Babe Ruth, or Jimmy Foxx will get a Retro Finest? How about Griffey Jr. or Nolan Ryan will they get one? Those guys you listed: Harper and Vlad Jr. are not Legends. Vlad Jr. got two 99s because he got one for winning All-Star MVP (like Stanton did this year) and he got a Finest because he had, what could be, the best year he ever has. Bryce Harper had an MVP Awards card and then they gave him a Finest. The winner of the World Series MVP will get a 99 card, and depending on who it is, may get two 99s. In MLBTS 20 Griffey Jr. got two 99s. One came in the form of a HR Derby collection reward since they didn’t have an actual HR Derby due to the coronavirus. Then he got a card in the last inning program, it was the first time they did the one boss. Please don’t try to tell me he got 2 this year. So, I don’t think Randy will get a second 99 card. I’m all for it, I can’t hit the one now anyway. But, this year is much different. Nobody can guess what they are doing.
Sorry for the long post! I’m so tired.I doubt Babe, Foxx or Griffey gets another card. Those are as close to perfect as it gets. Honestly last year the 99 Bryce was pretty redundant and I never actually used the Finest Vlad since it was released so late. I considered those to be more collectors items than anything.
I'm with you. That first 99 Griffey card was the same card as his 95 last year. It was a cheap ploy to get people to play when it obviously is not really a 99. I honestly think the Mantle was supposed to be a 99 but the backlash of Griffey made them change it (that's total speculation). I think Mays and Gehrig have a really good shot of getting another 99, Mantle will definitely get one as his is a 98.
All that said, I really have no clue what is gonna happen hahaha.

I agree. I was putting those names out like Babe just to make a point that not every good card has to be a Retro Finest. So I think that Randy Johnson’s card is already a great card. Mantle will get a 99, I hope Mays gets a good card. He is probably the best player ever to play the game or at least somewhere at the top. Lou Gehrig deserves one, but I am not sure if he will get it. I don’t know why they would downgrade him. I do want Kershaw to get a card with attributes like Kluber.
As for last year’s Vlad Jr., my order went through after this game was released. Trea’s card was great. -
After seeing the second Griffey 99, I think SDS could do anything at this point. It'll be fun to see what besides the postseason cards pop up as we get into November.
-
Honestly why? I mean his card right now is arguably the most dominant pitcher, I mean do you need 2 of him?

99 Randy Johnson card lol
Very possible Clemente has 2 99's so it is feasible. Might even see a Chase Utley finest as well.
Isn’t Chase Utley’s 99 a Finest already?
Yes it is, i used the name as an example not neccicarily the card type.

Some people don't want to be forced to collect every LS card to get him though.

To be fair that does make the most sense

Does Randy deserve a finest card? Yea j of course. Do we need another Randy card? I don’t necessarily need another. He’s already dominated most of this years game. Plus I don’t like when they give one player multiple 99 cards. If they did make a new Randy though you best believe I’d get it.

Do you mean as a reason why we don’t need two Randy Johnson 99s, just like we don’t need another highly attributed Utley?

Why not? Don't you like diversity? Don't you like having the choice of whether or not be able to collect every card or just play the game and be able to earn it? Because frankly i'm not a robot i like decision making for myself.

Sorry, I honestly have no idea what you are talking about. If it’s about having more than 1 Chase Utley, he has at least three cards to choose from. So does Randy Johnson. If you are referring to something else, we’ll, I just cannot help.

99 Randy Johnson card lol
Someone just gave me the info about you being a known troll. I guess I should have known by that “lol” thing in your post. Thanks for wasting my time.
I’ve probably posted on here 3 times so you got some bad info bud
Okay, I will take you on your word. I know people treated me bad when I first posted. I was speaking the truth on Randy Johnson though. I hope I was some sort of help. I tried to be, but it’s hard to say why SDS does some things. Like: why did they put a Griffey that said 99 on it, knowing it wasn’t a 99 card? No one knows. When I asked should I get Randy or buy the new Kluber, I was told Randy by far. Attributes don’t mean everything, especially with pitchers.
Based off things you say in your post sounds like you are fairly new to MLBTS so i will enlighten you! There can be several 99's of a player card and they all will play as 99's. The difference is the card type, for instance a Signature card represents a players whole career with an avg to his attributes for a whole career. Whereas a Finest card will have a date associated with it that represents a specific year and those attributes will be for that year only. So on and so forth. So yes any card could have multiple 99 overall versions if the player is deserving based off career. Hope this explains the confusion you seem to be having on this issue.
-
I feel that they set it up to have a 99 Ohtani card be the final we saw the card art at the beginning of the year. I just don't see how they can increase the amount of rookie and allstars now when they are realeasing only 1 each BR round. I liked when they required you to collect all the classic stadiums and the people who had collected them early on had them and the prices for them sky rocketed. They also gave you program starts for completeing them at the end.
In 2020 the last program with a boss was a single boss and it was Griffey. So I would think if they were going to redo a Randy Johnson or Mickey or Ohtani then it would be the last program boss.

What about Mays?

It's a pretty sad day if it is. Especially when these Topps Now cards have more power and contact for having a couple of great games in a week versus a guy who at P4 has less. He is one of the greatest if not the greatest player of all time. His Takahashi card is more of an insult than a great 99.

You guys are insane if you think they are going to make a big collection with Randy Johnson, you all have lost your mind. Aside from the fact that he was the LS collection reward, he already has the best card (according to everyone I speak or listen to about it) out of any SP.
I never said collection…
You didn’t, but a few other people after you alluded to it. Aside from Clemente, players like Griffey, Gehrig, and Mays never got a real 99. Especially Griffey’s card. Now, I could be wrong because this year has been strange; but, why would they make a second card of the best SP in the game?
his card attributes don’t really say he’s the best pitcher in the game compared to cards that are being released now. A lot of other players have multiple 99 cards so why not give another to the new legend that everyone wanted
I don’t mind if he gets another card. I am just telling you it is unlikely. Unlike Randy, Clemente does not start on most teams. You are correct that there is a chance, I would have said Clemente isn’t getting another card if you asked me the same thing before he did. Clemente, unlike Randy, is the first Hispanic to play in the MLB; plus, they have a designated day for Clemente. I don’t remember if they gave the card on his day or not. So, should the best pitching card in the game get a second card, I don’t see a reason; would I mind? Not at all.
Havent read past this post but Clemente was no where close to the first Hispanic to play MLB.

Sorry, you are probably right. He was the first Latin American who was a big star. For some reason I thought he was the first Hispanic. Sorry,
I know a lot, but not everything. Thanks for letting me know though. -

He was the best all around player (at least top 3) to play the game. The card is good, but not Mays good. Same with Gehrig.
