Hot and probably unpopular take.
But if you take 17 gameplay and slap it on this game, there would still be loud bellyaching from everyone.

Thats because you have 100+ attributes messing with the RNG, ‘17 gameplay without 100+ attributes would annoy the new players at first, but like the rest of us the enjoyment from the gameplay would push them to continue to improve. W.E this is that they are throwing out as DD and gameplay is not The Show, it’s a horrible attempt to attract and hook casual’s, while making money at the same time.

I disagree that it would keep pushing them to improve, games like this are designed for a reason and fewer people then you think are interested in "getting good"

The gameplay in ‘16 and especially’17 pushed me to become a better player, I went from AS in ‘16 to a WS player in ‘17. If they are not willing to improve than that just proves SDS catered to a specific player base and continues too. We will never know though because unfortunately none of these players will ever get to experience gameplay where their pitcher can’t throw 102 for 12 innings or have a hitter with a PCI smaller than the continent of North America. Look I make the best out of this game every year, even if it means spending a lot of my time offline on Franchise mode, but you can’t tell me as a Vet of the franchise that the gameplay especially in DD hasn’t gone downhill.

I'm not telling you it hasn't gone downhill. I'm telling you the reality, and using yourself as an example doesn't work because todays games aren't like that and most gamers aren't like that.
If sds has stayed with this kind of gameplay this long, it tells me their metrics they look at and their revenue says it's the best for them
It works for every sports game, Madden and FIFA don't make EA billions because they are good games.

That’s an issue that I don’t have enough beers to dive into TBH, but at least we can agree that this is not the DD the majority of us came to know and love.

Madden and Fifa make EA millions because they are predatory, they set a META, much like SDS has and prey on it. But why does SDS have to be like that? They have survived off of the fact that they aren’t predatory in the past, this year show’s that they are headed in the same direction as EA. Why is it that a low budget game like Vigor can offer me a legacy battlepass but a studio supported by Sony and paid by Nintendo and Microsoft can’t offer me a legacy style program?. Why is it that SDS is marching in line with EA when they don’t have to? How as a community have we let it get to this point?.

But they made money without following the Madden model, a lot of the past and present player base came to the game because it wasn’t the Madden model. Now that they have this player base they are switching to the Madden model and it’s really a bait and switch, which to most knowledgeable consumers isn’t acceptable.

They made money yes, but they can make more on the Madden model. Also when it comes to gaming, especially sports games, there aren't many "knowledgeable" consumers, idk if you watch youtube but Angryjoeshow has been railing on sports gamers for years on accepting mediocrity.

Unfortunately they have taken to the model of Player Retension which brings them the most money. Playing as intended ring a bell? It’s not about their behind the scenes stats. I do agree with you that 16 & 17 were the best gameplay. Trading posts with the devils advocate will do nothing more than frustrate you. Out

And I am with him, we as a community have allowed this to happen. We as consumers can make change but we don’t e.g. Microsoft users and the xbox live price hike.

I understand the player retention side of it, they were retaining players based on previous models, this years model is more micro transaction oriented, whats next year going to look like? How far away are we from being able to buy stubs and not just packs? Where do we as the community draw the line with SDS?

It is really a shame what the game has turned into with new generation consoles. I get you brother but I think this is a glimpse of things to come. There needs to be competition because people will still buy this game despite its shortcomings because there is no other baseball game. RBI doesn’t really count either.

I love the game and the content. Not a huge fan of having to grind against the cpu to get some of the cards, but I also don’t have a better idea for how the community can earn cards otherwise. I think it’s become more and more popular to [censored] on the game online, but in my opinion, it’s the best sports game on the market. I don’t get all the YFK clones out here complaining. A lot of the complaints are ridiculous. They didn’t super charge enough cards? Who tf cares? There’s two “99” Clemente cards - 1 locked behind a collection, the other available to everyone in a program released for Roberto Clemente Day - we’re crying about that? There are too many juiced cards, so everyone isn’t using the same 8 cards? I don’t see any of this as a bad thing. The biggest issues I have with this game is the toxic community- people trying to find every exploit and every way to be annoying in online matches and then running here or to twitter every time they lose and crying about the RNG.

Competition isn’t going to help, I don’t understand why people think that. It’s just going to be multiple baseball arcade sim’s similar to FIfa with more micro transactions because they are competing for revenue not player retention. We as a community, especially the veterans of the franchise have to stand up and say no. We have to inform the new players that this isn’t acceptable and isn’t what DD was built on.

I’ve been playing for three years, have obtained every card I wanted and have never completed a micro transaction. What are you actually talking about?
I am talking about the direction it is headed, you may not have had to complete a “‘micro transaction” this year but I bet you bought the pre order with 50,000 stubs? Have you spent majority of your time on the market flipping instead of playing the game?, I know you have missed out on the countless free packs and cards that were in the TA programs. Yet those same cards have all migrated to packs, and what about those who bought the game later in its life cycle? How do you suppose those players acquire the MS Britton or 2nd half Justice without purchasing stubs? You used to be able to acquire past program cards just by playing, now you better buy some stub’s and get to flipping or buy some stubs and buy them.

It is really a shame what the game has turned into with new generation consoles. I get you brother but I think this is a glimpse of things to come. There needs to be competition because people will still buy this game despite its shortcomings because there is no other baseball game. RBI doesn’t really count either.

I bought the standard version when the future star program came out. I haven’t flipped any cards. I haven’t completed the McCutchen collection yet, but I will soon. It wasn’t a priority of mine, so I was selling all the random henchmen and [censored] you get just for playing. But anyways, to me, it all feels very similar to last year and the year before. I don’t see it moving in a negative direction. Maybe you’re right, and I’m just not seeing it - to me it just seems super easy to obtain cards
Edit: I know it sounds weird that I don’t have the big collections done, but I say it’s easy to obtain cards. But two weeks ago, I had 18 or so All Star cards, about 18 Future Stars, July and August MA completed, Nolan Ryan, Fernando, and JR Richard- that’s it. In two weeks, I’ve completed 9 vouchers toward McCutchen, and am 50% or better in a lot of the other categories. That seems reasonable to me considering I don’t flip or grind a bunch of conquests
