I want to start the Franchise mode but not sure if it's worth it. Can you get Diamond Dynasty exp and stubs when playing Franchise mode?

Only when you actually play the games.

Simming games and any other time spent doing other things will not give DD gameplay XP.

About as much as you get for playing a ranked season game, (not the reward path, the actual game stubs, so 26 stubs here, 37 there etc.
