Defensive Catchers Question
-
Does the Fielding attribute matter at all for catchers?
Or is it all Arm Strength, Arm Accuracy, and Blocking?
For example, here is a comparison between probably the 2 best defensive catchers currently:
Sean Murphy
Fielding 95
Arm Strength 98
Arm Accuracy 71
Blocking 88JT Realmuto
Fielding 85
Arm Strength 98
Arm Accuracy 85
Blocking 92Murphy has a significant edge in Fielding, but I'm not sure what that even does for a catcher.
Is Realmuto the preferred option for the much more accurate arm and slightly better blocking?

Defense does MATTER, but pending how low the Defense Attributes are for that Catcher. Blocking is to prevent pass balls, have a better chance to prevent wild pitches or balls getting to far away when in the dirt. Fielding is self explanatory, better the fielding, the better you are fielding bunts & foul balls. As well your arm swing swiping when trying to tag a runner out at the plate. Reaction is also self explanatory, you react to bunts & foul pop ups sooner. Arm is the MPH speed throw you have & Accuracy is how well you are hitting your target fielder thrown to. Realmuto is a little better than Murphy for Pitchers with low Control & low BB/9 because those pitchers will be more wild & out of the zone more times then not. Murphy would be just slightly better for fielding bunts & foul balls. Their arm Strength is equal & excellent. However Realmuto has a slight better chance of hitting his target fielder with more success than Murphy. However Murphy's Accuracy is still higher then most other Catchers. You can not go wrong with either 1 of these to with what you ask. It's just a matter of which is hitting better for you.

Thanks! That's super helpful.
Hitting isn't vitally important for me because in Events, I run 2 catchers and pinch hit for my starting catcher.
So I think my best strategy is to start Murphy and replace him with JT, since I hit a bit better with him.
In Ranked, I use my CAP.

For Ranked, Events & BR I would suggest going with only 1 Catcher. Use your bench for your best Contact or best Power guys that have a better shot to come thru within that 1 AB. As well them being players having at least 2 to 3 secondary positions which you can just insert easier when needed to replace some1 for any given reason. Like when taking a guy out for a Pinch Runner/ And mentioning Pinch Runner. 2 Guys your bench should have at least 80 to 85 in speed which comes in handy when you are at 2nd & 3rd & makes it easier to score from 2B on a single or tag from 3B on a somewhat shallow fly ball.
