Let’s call the majority of these “foul tips” for what they really are; do overs
Oh, you swung with awful timing at a ball out of the zone? Don’t worry, you won’t strike out or even put that ball in play for an out…here’s another do over, and another do over, and another one until you finally get a hit or better
Game blows
All sports games have stuff like this. Its all designed to keep bums and children playing. If you strike out alot online you are more likely to give up and therfore more likely to not spend money on packs. It's gross
Yup, no one wants to have to put in time to get better at something and it certainly applies to how they programmed this years game. Cater to the casuals
I would guess that it isn't the devs. It's more than likely the higher ups, or even the MLB. Last year it was "we need more money" so they add xbox, this year again "more money"- add switch. The devs are just making the game they are told to by the share holders and the league.
What kills me is that the only people really benefiting from the excessive foul balls are the bad players. It's like a talent they have. Those of us who have played the game for years and have put in time to get good at zone hitting and patience aren't seeing the benefit of all these out of the zone hits and found because we aren't swinging at them. We are however getting punished more harshly for swinging at pitches in the zone.
Well said, totally agree, and this years game is definitely a kick in the nads to the players that play this game primarily for the competitive experience and have put in time to improve their skill.
Is what it is, I tell myself to expect the nonsense every time I play the game at this point. Doesn’t make it any less frustrating at certain moments though

Exactly. You turn this game on, and like you said, "expect the nonsense". It shouldn't be that way in a competitive game. Winners should be decided on skill. So many games my opponent won't hit anything then all the sudden he will get multiple hits with terrible contact on ground balls that are dribbled in a perfect location, my infielders will commit an error, a blooper on a very late swing, these crush your pitcher confidence and then they usually get an xbh to follow.
When these things happen (and they happen more games than not unbelievably) you get the feeling that you are just along for the ride, like the game is completely scripted; its your opponents time to score and there's nothing you can do about it.

Sums up my last RS game to a T
Facing Logan Webb on HOF and through the first 6 innings, I’m absolutely piecing up pitches (ball fully enveloped in the PCI with early-side-of-perfect good timing) that either died at the wall or were right at his fielders
Had at least 10 swings like that through the first 6 innings and literally couldn’t get anything to go. He of course hits 2 solo shots with his CAP. If he made good swings, awesome. But funny how the game seemingly rewards swings on one side and then it just flips
Come the 7th inning, I tie it with a 2 run shot with Trout on a swing that had bad PCI placement…of course the game decides to finally reward me on worse input and punished me through 6 innings for good input
Ended up winning 3-2 on a solo shot to walk it off but immediately turned off the game after that awful experience
Felt like I was battling a poorly programmed game and my opponent at the same time

Throwing slurves down and in to a lefty fouls off multiple and very early 4 times in a row till my filth pitch goes back in the zone because the par gravity pitch then rips a double off the wall then very early bloop to score the runner who ripped a double. It’s like clock work in this game. I know this is the event but it shouldn’t matter what game mode it is, if you don’t touch the ball with the pci you shouldn’t even make contact.
Counter argument: this is a forced result due to spamming of pitches. Believe SDS was also trying to combat the spamming of pitches (given the high sinker debacle, though that also is not itself remedied….even cpu burns me on them!) so while you may have the good control, etc, throwing the same pitch multiple times in a row, and certainly in the same spot, would lead to widening of target zone and eventual missed pitch spot.
Now, I’m not taking away from the standalone foul tip argument (curve literally bouncing that you’re early on and still get a piece of….), but specifically as it relates to spamming of pitches.

With all due respect, I think that’s a load of BS
If my opponent can’t hit a certain pitch in a certain location, why would you not attack that location with said pitch? That’s literally pitching
Why would I throw another pitch in another location knowing my opponent struggles with a different pitch and location combination
No way should we be penalized with a loss of control because my opponent keeps swinging away at a certain pitch
I do recall SDS mentioning a loss of control for throwing successive secondary pitches over and over and that’s catering to casuals at its finest

I'm so sick of these foul ball nerf posts. The real problem is pin point pitching. There has to be a way to combat all these sinker spamming try hard pin point pitchers, that just dot their pitches on the black the entire game.
Also true….

Sinkers are a problem. They look like a curveball then they shoot forward faster that a 4seam, yes. But the solution should be fix sinkers, not ruin hitting.

So dumb that a fastball gets out of the pitcher's hand at an upward angle that your brain thinks breaking ball and... nope 97 mph nipple high that breaks in the corner of the zone.
I agree with the other guy about the foul balls being a very, very badly implemented counter to high sinkers spamming. Fix the pitch, don't overcompensate with a faulty mechanic. I don't know why we'd expect anything else at this point.

If you record gameplay and post it to YouTube you can slow down the video. I've done this just to see a sinker in slow motion. It comes out of the hand and has almost the exact same initial angle as a slider or a slurve. The downward break, the part that should matter, isn't as pronounced as the first "slider" type break. That's why people struggle so much. Somtimes after the pitch the ball indicator is at an almost impossible location compared to where your eyes thought it would be.
What's worse is not every sinking if the same. The slower more break sinkers are far worse, think keuchel and mussina.

I think there’s a difference between spamming a pitch and targeting an opponents weakness (which is obviously part of the game). Same pitch, same spot, multiple times in a row for a single at bat, for most/every batter (last years high sinker!): spamming. Using the slow + low inside slider as a punch out pitch across multiple batters: targeting weakness.
