These threads are always better in the early part of the year when we aren't all rocking 97-99 overalls in every spot. Although, most of us have had nearly two weeks with the game now and with a lot more time to play than we're probably accustomed to, so with that said, I expect a few big time "flexing on fools" squads already.
I'm still working my way to a few Face of the Franchise cards but I do have a couple:
-
Catcher - Gary Sanchez, 87 OVR (Show Classics)
If you leave something over the plate or try to throw high and inside -- your left fielder is going to be watching that ball fly over his head. I'm planning on acquiring Face of the Franchise Carlos Santana to platoon with him off the bench versus lefties but for the time being, I'm more than okay with facing a lefty with over 100 power despite the 40 contact and meh-level vision. -
1B - Josh Bell, 88 OVR (Face of the Franchise)
I just switched from the Live Series to the diamond but I am all about Josh Bell's swing -- In my opinion, it's easily one of the best in the game. I've yet to have him botch anything either, however, once a diamond Frank Thomas comes out, he'll be relegated to the bench. -
2B - Whit Merrifield, 82 OVR (Live Series)
Ironically, he was the very first gold I received as my loyalty reward and so I immediately stuck him in the lead-off spot and I just haven't been able to take him out. He's got the highest average on my team, has some truly surprising power, and his ability to play anywhere but shortstop and catcher gives him late-game versatility. I'm going after his diamond Face of the Franchise card next. -
SS - Jimmy Rollins, 91 OVR (Veteran)
I didn't realize how much I missed this man's swing until I popped this bad boy into my lineup. The way the ball comes off his bat, the way he follows through is just so satisfying. Last year, I had a really hard time finding a shortstop; eventually, I settled on the SS Omar Vizquel. I won't have that problem this year. -
3B - Yoan Moncada, 86 OVR (Face of the Franchise)
I'm so excited to have a diamond Moncada this early into the game's life-cycle this year. Last season, by the time he got that diamond Player of the Month card, The Show's Finest cards were pretty much on their way to being released. If you haven't noticed, I have a thing for switch-hitters. -
LF - Curtis Granderson, 85 OVR (Veteran)
This card brought me back to that one year (was it TS16 or 17?) we got the diamond Granderson from Conquest. That card straight raked and so does this one! This was a pleasant surprise. -
CF - Ken Griffey Jr., 83 OVR (Show's Legacy)
I didn't expect to use this card very much at all but he hasn't left my lineup. I know people love that Aaron Judge, but I think I made the right choice. Can't wait for a prime/SS Griffey Jr. -
RF - Vladimir Guerrero, 91 OVR (WSH Collection Reward)
I just unlocked him a few hours ago, so I haven't had much time with him but I'm excited to use him. I never unlocked the SS last year and I stopped playing The Show '18 by June, so I never completed the Live Series collection for his Immortal card. Fingers crossed on this investment.
