The Atlantic League will also restore a previously tested rule that lets batters attempt to advance to first base if a pitch is not caught in the air by the catcher. Batters can try for first even if the base is occupied, and they'll be awarded with a hit if they reach. MLB hopes the rule will encourage better control from pitchers by disincentivizing wild pitches and passed balls.
So does the runner on first run to 2nd or do they just stand there like an idiot and get awarded 2nd if the batter makes it safely to first?
In short, agreed. Very dumb in my opinion
It's ssoooo bad. Wow, I'm all for small tweaks to make the game more interesting but this is bonkers.
awarded a hit when not even swinging the bat !? think its not good to begin with and then that. treat it like a BB or hbp but not a hit. or better yet, not do it at all.
bring it to the show and my OBP might actually be higher than my AVG for once
This is some whiffle ball rules lol
That has to be an Onion article.

Completely agree. Imagine guys having inflated .BA just because the pitcher/catcher duo they face is terrible.
Atlantic League will also be playing softball size dimensions next year. Base lengths, mound distance, and 220 ft fences.

LMFAO I thought I was the only one who has a card with discipline like Juan Soto, but its stats look like an Ozzie Albies.
