Universal pitch speeds

When did they start changing pitch speeds? I started playing online in 18 and I remember the pitch speeds were generally slower but I don’t recall if they changed as you moved up. I know 19 changed similar to how it is now but I thought 18 was universal.
Pitch speeds have always been faster on the higher difficulties, it's just that in 18 the pitch speeds in general were kinda slow which many people hated because the PCI also covered like half of the plate. Which made it extremely hard to get people out and stick skills didn't really matter all that much in that game.

Good start would be to get rid of Outlier. I don't know, why it's in the game at all, it's so unrealistic and total pain in the a..

I actually agree. I liked it initially but I changed my mind. To me it's not so much that I can't hit the 102, but if you sit on that 102 in a 2 strike count and you get a good tunneled offspeed pitch, you're gonna be defenseless a lot of the times on the higher difficulties. Not only that, but I've pitched gems myself with DeGrom/Verlander where I can just pinpoint 102 after 102 for 9 innings straight. That is indeed unrealistic.

It wasn't until 19 where pitch speeds started to diffrentiate.

What? I don't think that's accurate. I've been playing since 15 and as far as I know, pitch speeds went up and down depending on difficulty.

But isn’t outlier the main reason that a lot of people quit playing online... That and Edward Cabrera’s unrealistic outlier sinker... I’m down for universal pitch speeds with the pci getting smaller, I’d love an indicator with what level your playing on, like a banner on the scoreboard like the did with World Series... Outlier needs to be reworked.

Also playing since 15, I remember pitch speeds being the same through and through, only the PCI changed.

Well it has been a while, but as I remember it they both changed throughout the difficulties.

If that were the case 18 would have seen the same fluctuation and HoF would have been more enjoyable. 19 was the first one to introduce it.

Sorry, I don't think that's accurate. In 18 the pitch speeds in general were just slow, too slow according to many. But there was a difference between the difficulties. They also had pitch speed sliders in the options menu.

You've always had the ability to adjust pitch speed offline, but online was stagnant to whatever SDS set it to. Are 17s servers still online? We should test it, because I am willing to bet on this lol.
Heck I even remember getting above 1800 in 16 and just not really feeling a difference pitch wise. It was just a smaller PCI.

Unfortunately the servers for 17 are down. But I played that game a TON. I'm like 99% certain the pitch speeds did increase as you went up in difficulty.

Hahaha dude I am im the exact same boat but feel the complete opposite. I only ever remember the PCI shrinking.

Well that we can agree on, the PCI was most definitely tiny at the higher difficulties and the buckshot in the feedback was about the size of the baseball on legend.
-
Yes, yes, yes.
This has been my stance for a while, the skill gap should be dictated by pci placement and true outcomes rather than who is willing to buy a monitor and can time outlier.
Unlike the latter, I’d argue that pci placement can be practiced and improved upon. Especially if dealing with universal pitch speeds so you can actually get used to timing.
If also add things like actually needing correct timing to fall a ball off. Seriously, if someone is very late or early, that should be a swing and miss. Things like that would make up for the speed difference, it would make more pitchers useful, and I think it would keep a skill gap.

Note that I'm not arguing how fast those universal pitch speeds should be, that's a whole separate debate. As long as they're equal across the board, that's all I care about.
I volunteer to be the guy who picks the speed. Spoiler - it will be somewhere between AllStar and HOF.
SDS - email me when you have the demo ready.
I second this!! All those in favor show you’re regular voting sign.

I agree 100%. How about you choose a speed and have different levels within that speed? For example, if I like to play all-star, my rating in that level would dictate the pci? It might split the community a bit but it would be more organic. Losing games on purpose to stay at the same pitch speed should not be a solution. I should be able to stay at the same pitch speed and get a good challenge.
