Pause and I can't do anything

I paused a game I was getting whooped up in, to put a new pitcher in. All of a sudden I couldn't toggle between options. Eventually the timer ran down and I forfeited. I chalked it up as a weird bug and started a new game. This time we were 0-0 late in the game and it paused to recommend pinch hitting for the pitcher, and again I couldn't toggle. Again the timer ran out and I forfeited. I just got a new Xbox controller and wouldn't think it was related, but has anybody had anything like this? I don't want to waste my time if I'm going to be forced to forfeit when I need a new pitcher or want to pinch hit.
