Will TA 5 bring us second 99s of anyone?
-
So I know technically there were two 99s with J-Ram before, but it's clearly something they try to avoid unlike say 2K that has practically 10 99s for some players by the end of the season. Giving Devers a 99 ALCS card is the perfect example when he deserved a 98 since they knew it had to be better than the All-Star version but didn't want two 98s.
Anyways, I see the hardest ones to avoid as being Ohtani and Harper. The Blue Jays have multiple guys you could argue but if you want to throw Vladdy in there too fine.
Ohtani I could see the loophole of making the Finest a primary OF version since the AS was primary SP, while Harper I guess the only thing is that it would be a Phillies version along with the previous Nats version. There is truly NOBODY else on the Phillies that can even jokingly get consideration given the year Harper had so I wonder if this is going to be the year they potentially make multiple 99s a thing.

Pretty sure the Angels Finest will be Iglesias.
But, not sure if they'll all be 99s or a mix of 97-99s.

Devers LS card better go diamond with the last update...
-
Zack Wheeler is a pretty obvious choice for the Phillies.
2nd in fWAR among pitchers, 2nd in FIP, 5th in ERA, 5th in ERA+, 5th in WHIPAnd Iglesias was good enough this year that there’s no need to give ohtani two 99’s.

I think they will do what they can to avoid multiple 99's. They'll pick someone who's close enough to deserving it and juice the card.
Jacob Stallings comes to mind, that card was JUICED.

Nobody else on the phils? the sportswriters just got done 2 months of evaluating Wheelers chances of landing the cy young, he was frontrunner for awhile, but still is at least top 5, and none of the articles now have a clear consensus.

They could tick everyone off and do a round of 99 Future Stars.

This would be absolutely wonderful. This place has been awfully calm since the Madden crew headed out.

I find the Jays will be tough. If not for Ohtani, Vlad would be MVP but already has a 99. Ray could win the Cy Young, already has a 99. Semien broke a record for most HR for a 2nd baseman, he has a 99 (or 98 base, don’t remember).
It could be Teoscar again even though they gave him a 97 AS card. Bo? Solid season but maybe 5th best season on his team? Worth consideration?

Semien’s POTM is only a 96, so he is a possibility. I would bet on it being bichette though, since he’s the only one of that group that hasn’t gotten a high diamond this year. He finished with 4.9 fWAR, which was the third best on the team and still very good. With teoscar already having a 97 and finishing with 3.9 fWAR, I don’t see how it doesn’t go to bichette. He’s been on streams/videos with SDS as well, so I’m sure they want to give him some kind of good card.

I'm really curious who gets the Finest card for my White Sox. I mean, each of the following have a card already somewhere between a 96-99 overall:
- Tim Anderson (99)
- Luis Robert (98)
- Jose Abreu (98)
- Lucas Giolito (98)
- Carlos Rodon (97)
- Lance Lynn (97)
- Yasmani Grandal (97)
- Liam Hendriks (96)
So that leaves us with Yoan Moncada, Eloy Jimenez, Dylan Cease, and most interesting of all -- Michael Kopech.
Fingers crossed we get a nasty 99 Michael Kopech or Dylan Cease.I'd also love an Aaron Bummer but I doubt they'd do that.

I think moncada is basically guaranteed to get a finest, especially considering he had the most fWAR on the team among position players. He got screwed out of a finest in 2019 due to fan voting, and he’s earned one again this year.
