PCI/Hitting HAS to be Fixed in 22
-
I tried to give the update that fixed the PCI range a couple weeks to let me get used to the new sensitivity and range.
However, this update quite possibly has broken the game entirely. While the game was in a tough spot when the video dropped about those low corners, it was still a relatively difficult spot to hit on the regular. Now, the PCI is so capable and the RNG is so messed up that playing on HoF feels like All Star pre-update. Now more than ever, people are able to foul off literally any pitch, despite how unrealistic, consistently hit bombs on terrible PCI placement/timing, and get negative exit velocities on good PCI placement.
I've been playing since the beta, have close to 300 ranked GP mostly on HoF and Legend, and the game feels like it's in its worst spot all year. Ranked wasn't great before this update, but now it's just an outlier vs. outlier dice roll on Shippett. All it comes down to is who gets the favorable RNG swing with runners on base. Realism used to be something that was kind of there, but now it's just completely lost. Pitchers can't sit 100-102 for 150 pitches, 100 mph screamers in the gap aren't just routinely caught, and curveballs that bounce aren't fouled off with very early/late timing. 21 isn't a baseball sim anymore, it's an arcade marketed as a sim. That's pretty frustrating for someone who got into the Show a couple years ago because it felt realistic.
I get it if the gameplay guys are more focused on 22 now. They whiffed on the last major update. You need to own that and figure out a way to fix it for 22, or this game is going to wither away the second someone else can publish a decent title.

100% agreed
-
Couldn't be said any better! 100% agree
-
Spot on good sir. This years game is giving 18 a run for its money
-
Agreed. over 300 GP in ranked as well. I only played this weekend to grind out stats in the BR Program. I also made WS last week. But once I made WS and completed the BR Program, I felt no reason to play the game. It's not fun. Hitting is completely ridiculous. Pitchers can go WAY too deep into game with no impact. Timing windows are abhorrent and gameplay is different game-to-game based on internet connection.
This year's game is at 2018's level. The only reason it's slightly better is because of content. But you can't enjoy the content with all the BS happening right now.

I think a big part of my issue is that the offspeed timing windows vary. Like for example it feels like the ideal slider timing window is unnaturally early.

Timing windows are god awful
-
It’s awful.
Unfortunately I got up into the 700s. And I’ve had 3 hits in 15 innings.
It’s horrible. Not enjoyable what so ever for the causal player.
-
i made WS and i'm 5 wins away from 30 wins to get the second WS award
and i just don't want to play since it was a grind and legend is horrible
-
As much as I'm down on EA Sports for ruining first Maddens, and now NHL, I'd love for them to do sim Baseball again, just for competition's sake.
These companies are not being pushed in ANY of the 4 major sports.
I even wish 2K got back into Hockey games!
I don't think this series will wither away, I mean who is their rival? RBI? Lolz. -
Doesn't everyone think the entire hitting interface(s) need to be overhauled?
It will NEVER happen because it would cost a fortune, and I doubt SDS has the time, interest, or cash to do so.
Zone hitting is just flat out dumb.
Directional only works offline.
Nobody uses analog. But how do you solve it?
I've been a huge fan of directional even though I use zone. It's the only thing even CLOSE to actual hitting.
Pull/push/fly ball/ground ball. You hit according to the hitters strengths and game situations.
But it doesn't work because the physics are all wrong.
The only way to hit the up and in fastball is to be very early, and if you do that, it's always foul at best.
When the pci shrinks, you can't hit it at all.
But with zone, if your pci is there, you can kill that pitch.Too much emphasis on perfect timing-- if you want to pull, you have to be early. If you want to go oppo, you have to be late. Perfect timing hardly ever happens. Pitch location determines when you swing.
But the YouTube crowd likes zone, so zone it is.
I propose we come up with a different option: A new interface that somehow combines the realism of directional with the precision of zone.
Put your thinking caps.
Anyone can complain. Solutions are the hard part.Zone gives your hitter no control. Pray you get your pci there, then see what happens.
Directional shrinks the zone the further you advance. -

In order to reward user input they need start with all star difficulty…maybe legend?
remove the outer pci and non pci foul tips….
shrink the pci….
nerf homers a bit…..PROBLEM SOLVED.
Little girls that love painting with PPP can still do it against the smaller pci and without the foul tips.
People that can actually hit will be able to score runs without the jacked up timing windows on LEGEND.Totally agree with you OP…I was thinking the same thing. It isn’t even a baseball game at this point. They have amplified every stupid aspect of this game. Foul tips, non pci bombs, PPP painting corners.
It would be so easy for them to fix and make a rewarding game that was decided on input.

yall should go try to make a video game, since you guys seem to know so much

The thing is the game is fine….they just have added stupid [censored] like the outer pci and crazy foul tips….messed with timing windows, etc…..
The game is built properly and it’s great. They just refuse to tune it correctly.
The real problem is people that suck. The ones crying about not being able to get their daily moment in the first try. Trying to please everyone is how they jacked the game up.

i get where they are coming from, but with the foul balls, its literally only like 10 seconds of your time, you are spending the time anyway, and the pci update, just move your pci less
-
Remember guys, they mess with hitting to keep a sense of reality, while giving players 125 ratings, 99 speed, pitches they never threw and quirks that allow for pitchers and hitters to be superhuman. But realistic batting averages matter.
-
I don't mind a player that earns foul balls, you tip something in the PCI, all the power to you. What I mind is when I throw 4 straight bangers in the dirt, where the hitter is able to foul them all off despite bad PCI placement and bad timing (when in real life, no shot), then SDS finally auto corrects the next pitch and it gets blasted to orbit with early timing.
Oh and yes, I thought about throwing a fastball sure, but those can be reacted to pretty easily. Considering how the strike zone is literally white to white on the plate, with none of the black getting called, good luck sneaking a fastball by people.
