What's this mean?

In a BR game. Second inning just ended. But instead of starting the third inning; I'm staring at a black screen where in the upper left hand corner it states that I'm 'waiting for my opponent'?

Usually a freeze of some sort

You loaded in first, other guy connection is slower and you are waiting for him to catch up.
