Dorm Wifi Sucks, What to Do?

I recently moved in to my college campus dorm, and the wifi here sucks. It won't let me use their more secure wifi which could have a better signal (something to do with the router's WPA2 or 3 settings, and since it's a college router, I can't mess with it), and I doubt I could set up a wifi of my own without breaking some rule. There isn't an ethernet cable available, either.
My download and upload speeds hover around 27 mbps, which SUCKS. As a result of this, my Xbox is telling me in network tests that my matchmaking experiences will not be good at all.
What can I do to improve my speeds?
