Not best card in the game, but since we're in all 99 territory for bosses now I did expect someone who actually should get a 99 instead of, you know, Matt Kemp.
Literally the only difference between Matt Kemp's 2011 season and Alfonso Soriano's 2006 is that Matt Kemp had 39 Homeruns instead of 41.
Kemp also has a better BA, OPS, and pretty much everything else that year too.

This is my first year playing DD. I actually like this card a lot and love the thought of a 99 Kemp. I am curious though...when do a lot of these guys (specifically CF's) come...Mantle, Griffey, Trout, Mays, etc.? I know they hold the big guys to keep people playing, but I am hoping it is at least before the end of the year.

Griffey will probably be 9th inning, think he was his own boss last year for 10th inning, I assume these guys will get released in numerous ways, player programs, the extreme program usually has a couple big cards in it as well.

I disagree. I guess I could have said it in a different way though. You can't really compare last year to this year. This year is a whole new ballgame. It's time they start giving us the big boys. I've been patient along with many others. My only gripe this year is the content. I don't wanna wait 9 months for Griffey, Aaron, Pedro etc.. The list goes on and on. It would be nice to have usuable cards of them by now. I appreciate the cards they have been giving out and some have been really nice. Others way too juiced. Either way, I don't know what they're waiting for. That 97 joke of a Pujols card that dropped last week says it all. Who would sit there and honestly say they are excited for that?

As a D-backs fan, I have hated the Dodgers ever since they peed in our pool after clinching the division in 2013. So watching Kemp hit a couple bombs in Chase stadium in the reveal video has triggered me.
I look forward to bosses 2 and 3.

It's to keep people playing. In 18 they dropped those kind of dudes in july and even the most hardcore players stopped playing in mid august

I thought it was mantle and now that it’s kemp, even if he has great attributes, I’m extremely disappointed.

Fair enough. I guess this has crystallized my thinking that there are just too many 99s. I think that rating should be reserved for the best players of all time/Hall of Famers, not "this guy finished 2nd in NL MVP once".
But that's a whole can of worms that goes directly towards the structure of different card series like milestones and others.

The problem is too many end game players, why is luis urias a 96, need to chill with the topps now content and a 99 kemp wouldn’t look so bad.
I mean, it is a "Moment" card and dude had literally a record setting day with going 5/5 with all 5 hits being extra base hits. But I get your point.

I understand but its out of hand with the ratings, i get that it allows for line up diversity but [censored], that Urias card might be one of the better 3B cards in the game. We have reached end game a little too soon IMO.

Maddux is among best pitchers of all time, same as Pedro.
Musial is among best hitters of all time, obviously short of Ruth but at least somewhat comparable.
Rollins more than doubles Kemp in WAR.Kemp is an outlier for sure among those 6 players. It's like including Longoria in that collection last year with Hoffman, Seaver, and Ruth.

Where is Matt Kemp now ? 99 should not involve players of 3 seasons at high level... And then disapears.
I loved Kemp because of having him in my fantasy lineup but this guy never deserves to be rated as high as HOFers.
SDS need to reevaluate the rating in DD. -

I also think people are far too worried about players like Kemp getting cards on the same level as Ruth etc. too. Kenp will play better in game than Musial and Rollins did. This game is supposed to be fun. Using Babe Ruth for the 4th year in a row is not fun. Its not possible for every inning program to be top tier legends every single time like people want. We aren't even sure Ruth and Pedro are for sure the other two bosses, people just jumped on them and set themselves up for disappointment.
It seems like a lot of folks around here would have loved MLB 18. The top tier legends were the only 99s. The result? Not only one of the worst sports games of all time but one of the worst games period of all time

Babe Ruth is always my favorite card, so you can cross me off your list then.
The point is a pretty simple one. Matt Kemp as a 6th inning boss is weak. No ways around that. You want to include him in a 2nd inning program... whatever, I guess that's more his level. Including him as a boss choice alongside the best player of all time, and one of the greatest starting pitchers of all time is just dumb.
Might as well be a Luis Urias Topps Now boss.

Just not a fan of them still giving us players like Kemp as an inning boss this late into the year. Sorry. I will always feel like the Inning Bosses need to be the legendary HOF players. There are plenty of opportunities through player programs, BR, Headliners, etc to give players that had a few good years. Maybe I’m a little biased. I’m a Braves fan and had to endure butthead Kemp for too long. He had one good run with us but he was terrible to have in the clubhouse. He was a prima Donna that couldn’t live up to his attitude very long. He was more interested in how he looked in a photo. It was a happy day when he was gone. Aside from that, though, give us the Mantles, Aarons, Ruths, Mays, (insert better players) and not flash-in-the-pan guys this late in the cycle. Frankly, I also feel like the overall collection rewards don’t need to be current players. As good as Trout and Betts are, it was still more exciting to get a historical player like Honus Wagner. I was excited going into the year for Aaron and Clemente as overall rewards, less so for Betts and current players. Kemp will never be on my team, but sadly I have to buy him to get the next inning XP collection boost. I know, I’ll mock myself by saying Boohoo.

There are so many great players throughout the history of baseball. Let others shine for a bit. It gets old have the same old players every year. I am happy Kemp is getting a moment in the sun! Rock on wit yo bad self!
