Is PCI placement optional now?

I’ll be honest. I’m losing a lot of event games that I feel I would normally win.
I’ve noticed two recurring themes:- When I play against teams with better attribute cards, I am generally losing probably 75% of the time and
- More often than not, in these losses my opponent has poor or no PCI home runs and/or bloops and my good swings versus better attribute pitchers go for outs.
Is anyone else observing similar trends? I don’t have a lot of meta players in this event as I’ve mostly focused on my CL team this year.

I’ve noticed that if a pitch is low but still over the plate and inside and I swing early, if the pci is just below the ball but not touching the ball it can lead to shallow foul line home run. I’ve done this numerous times online, mostly in event.

I’ll start moving my pci away from the ball and see how many bloopers I can get. It would be a fun experiment

Ha! You never know what you might learn.
Sometimes when I’m getting blown out, I’ll just switch to pulse pitching and throw down the middle to see what happens. You’d be amazed by the results!

On the flip side I’ve ripped about 1000 just early bombs that felt good to me.
Those used to be homers.

Yeah in previous MLB years just early with perfect pci were almost always bombs. Now they go just outside the foul pole or are sometimes even way foul.

Yeah in previous MLB years just early with perfect pci were almost always bombs. Now they go just outside the foul pole or are sometimes even way foul.
Just early and squared up on anything inside is always a foul bomb. It’s the best when it makes the perfect sound or when it initially says perfect but changes it to just early after it lands foul

This is exacerbated by the meta now where pitching on the inside corner is the equivalent of down the middle.

You ever notice most foul balls/foul homeruns have more exit velos than a good hit ball in play.

I think timing matters more this year than anything else. I played a game yesterday and this guy hit a HR off me off a 6 pci placement!!
I then looked at my Eddie ABs and half of them were 12-13-14 but timing was off.
It’s that window of early to just early which is the one. I don’t recall hitting a late HR this year.

I notice it on low pitches, I’ve seen so many sinkers 6 inches below the zone that my opponent has no pci on and squeaks through the middle at 65 MPH
