That´s funny. Watching the game as well and I didn´t even think about him getting OF secondary in the game. I wonder if they´ll make that happen or not. Still can´t believe the Pads are using him in the OF.
I can’t believe Tatis willingly accepted an outfielder role. I’m sure it was explained to him as a way to minimize injury. Still, SS’s notoriously try to hold that SS position no matter what. I don’t know all the details and I’m sure when his is 100% he’ll be back at Short.
Does it matter honestly? He has a long term contract and shows he’s a team player

hes an elite defender at short and his bat is more valuable at that position. And before anyone wants to talk about errors, 90% of them are him ranging further than any other shortstop in the league to get to a ball and trying to make a crazy throw.

Agreed. As a baseball fan he’s a true joy to watch on all sides of the ball. I’m hoping he finds long term health and we get to see him on display for a full season. He can give Trout a run for the best payer in baseball crown. Image if they both play full seasons next year.

Tatis gets OF secondary? Friday I’m guessing. Not many mid week changed happen right
FYI for all the Jeter-lovers out there:
THIS is what a captain and team leader does: whatever it takes to make the team better, even if means you swallow your pride and move around the field.
Props to Tatis Jr for showing Jeter how it's done.

Should of happened sooner probably

Ok. Yes it’s tremendously unselfish of Tatis. I’m a huge fan of the guy, but how does this have anything to do with Jeter? Tatis has an injury. This is the reason and rational for the move. The Padres also have the players to accommodate this move. So how does Jeter tie into this at all.....?

The only reason it matters is his willingness to do it. It’s commendable. I think it is the right move, but you know how it can be with elite athletes sometimes. They can be selfish and hard headed. In this case It appears logic and the thought of longevity has prevailed

Sorry but this is not true. He’s an elite athlete however his fielding/throwing is not elite compared to other elite SS’s. The thing about it though is that he’s young so he has plenty of experience to come that will probably help this. Most of his errors have nothing to do with range. 1/2 of them are bobbling/missing balls hit right at him and the other half are wild throws because he does have a cannon but he has trouble aiming his cannon. Lol he’ll get it cleaned up I’m sure but it’s his fielding and accuracy that keep him from being in the elite category. Amazing player all around though.

No man I watch the games, 9 out 10 times it’s a diving stop and a throw to the backstop behind first base. Balls that would’ve been in center field if hit at any other SS. If he learns to just eat it and let em have their infield hits he’s in contention for a gold glove with the web gems he has made

I 100% agree. Ive read other posts on here with people bashing his defense and saying he is a terrible SS. Nothing could be further from the truth. I think the stats will tell you some things about a player but watching someone day in and day out is the ultimate judge of talent. He does have a fair amount of errors and there is no denying that. I will even admit he is not having as good a year defensively as a lot of people had anticipated. That being said, if you watch him play day in and day out he is without a doubt a top tier defensive SS. He makes SOO many spectacular plays, and like you said a lot of his errors are on plays where he shouldve just ate it rather than attempting a miracle throw. I will also add, that if the Padres had a halfway decent defensive first baseman Tatis would even have less errors. I know, I know, we have Eric Hosmer who has multiple gold gloves with the Royals. I didnt watch too many Royals games when he was there so I cant speak to that, but his defense as a Padre has been well below average. I would even say bad. Tatis has many errors this season on throws to first where even an average first baseman wouldve made the play on and saved him of an error. Anyone who watches Tatis on a daily basis would never have the opinion that he is a bad SS. I can understand though looking at the stat sheet and saying, welp, he has x amount of errors so he must be bad. In some cases that may be true, but absolutely not in the case of Tatis.
