Why does directional hitting work so much better against the CPU vs Zone?
-
Not sure why directional gets such a big boost vs the CPU compared to zone. When doing these moments/programs it feels like pool noodle time with zone, but directional makes it so much easier.
Any ideas why? -
I found its only easier for home runs, because directional is influencing the hit to be a fly ball , so if you hit it right it would be, on zone it depends on placement and center could still be line drives depending on the hitter.

In my opinion its because most casual players prefer to play offline instead of online. Also most casual players don't use zone, but directional hitting. They just want to have some fun hitting some baseballs, instead of sweating over PCI placement and all the other things. So to make the game more fun to them and to keep them engaged (everyone loves good hitting outcomes), they make directional hitting more rewarding in vs CPU gameplay.

Interesting theory.

I'm a casual player and I use zone, but my choice has nothing to do with strategy. That's what the game defaulted to and I'm too lazy to tinker with settings so I just made myself adapt to it lol.

In my experience, directional is good for home runs (especially when you wait for an off speed hanging pitch, or a very situational set up (something like defensive shifts or perhaps avoiding a double play). But I find zone more effective to get general hits because I feel I have more control on where in the zone i want to hit the ball (top or bottom part of the bat)……in short I find that when you are set up in a situation (like a moment) directional is useful, but when I need tb’s or just wanna fill the bases, I find zone more helpful……everyone is different though I’m sure.

I feel like making myself get used to zone has helped me improve a lot faster than I would have with directional, because when I make a bad swing I have better feedback to tell me exactly what I did wrong.

I can totally echo this! I find it useful in exactly the way you just said.
