On a force play does it make you reach the bag faster or does it actually slow you down? Is it more so useful for tag outs at the bag in hopes that they do not tag you in time since they have to reach down?

No reason to slide into 1B unless the fielder is pulled off the bag and attempts a tag.

Siding into 2nd and 3rd on a force doesn’t make you get there faster BUT you can maintain speed without running past the bag.

If you don’t slide, you have to pull up on your running which would cause you to slow down to avoid running past it and getting tagged out that way.

It's slower I wish they had injuries on for dumb slides and dives

sliding into 2nd on a potential double play makes the fielder move off the bag before throwing which the delay could be safe at first.other then that sliding is only to avoid a tag, slows you down otherwise

Going to first and home, it is quicker to just run through the bag. For second and third, it is quicker to slide to come to a stop at the bag than it is to slow your running down to not overrun on a close play.

Unfortunately in the game it does make sense to slide into first on a hit to right field. They have improved it some but in years past you would get that stupid animation on a base hit to right field where your runner slows down and pumps his fist because he got a hit but then get thrown out. Sliding usually would keep that from happening. Sliding into first on a ground ball to the infield just makes you look like a dope.

What I don't get is, when you have a runner on 2nd, and you hit a ground ball to the shortstop, why the runner on 2nd more times than not automatically slides back into 2nd. That has never made sense to me.

    To not overrun the bag.

If you slide into 1st and get injured though, you somewhat deserve it

I have seen (in the game) sliding into first to avoid the tag of an errant throw work out for the runner!

I actually saw a clip of, I think one of the Olympic women's softball games and saw a player from Japan do a headfirst slide into first base on a groud ball force out. I remember thinking that it was the first time I remember seeing someone do that outside of MLB The Show.
