Three times tonight

I had opponents just quit in the early innings. As soon as they gave up a run. I completely understand. I'm not even angry with them. I'm pretty disappointed in this game that doesn't bring enuf reality to the table to keep from insulting everyone that plays online. Not enough immersion for opponents to have the courtesy to finish a game.
Not their fault. They are quitting on this software fiasco, not their opponent. I understand it's nothing personal.
Again, I have empathy and complete understanding for those who bail out. I get it. Same 'ol krap, you're pitching your heart out. Opponent ain't hitting anything and then suddenly, shazam, they hit one of the best pitches you've thrown all night. You know why? the code doesn't really care what is happening. What sort of awesome pitch or awesome swing either opponent just initiated. Because the game is nothing more than a series of animated MLB clips that just randomly get tossed out there on your screen.
Well, not random so much as programmed intent to create some sort of parity or peak a degree of interest.
We see it as random, but there is likely some psycho-social theory the gaming companies have been lead to believe keep customers engaged. So, they code it so. Seems to work pretty well for them based on the revenues.
There really isn't a whole lot of intelligent implementation of the animation. Logic is seldom apparent. When the AI wants to keep you down it's just a steady stream of - "too early", "too late", "rolled-over", etc. Doesn't actually match what you know as normal feedback. And, yeah, there is no "normalcy" in this game period, but thought I would toss that out as a quasi-reference point. There is zero consistency in the game...and, that's why people just quit.
I get it..most everyone out here has been there and should have complete compassion.
When you get taken for a ride by this glorified slot-machine they try to pass off as simulated competition..it gets old, repetitious, and boring.

Depends really, my best moments have been from being 5 runs down at the bottom of the 9th and still bringing it back.
But 40 wins is a lot, and some people would rather not waste 40 mins or their lives if they know they're gonna get beat.
Also - it depends, i may start Mark Prior - the other guy has De Grom, i go 2-0 down, i play my half inning, cant see the ball. I quit.

The few times I'm playing online at all this year, I'm getting animations like diamond fielders not picking up bunts and 'terrible hop' animations for base hits that should have been fielded for easy outs. I'm not complaining about my opponents not getting those animations per se (I assume they do at other times) but I play online so infrequently now for a variety of reasons, and it stuns me how I'll get stuff like this in the very first game back online, where I can play what seems like hours against the CPU and not get similar game-changing animations.

I’ve never been an offline mostly player on any game with online gameplay, but I’m suspending playing The Show online until there’s some type of fix, and just playing rtts.
The last few games I played RS, me and opponents hit HRs with the ball completely outside the PCI, games going down to the 9th inning with 1 hit for both of us ends in a no PCI HR, lost a game in extra innings to a guy stealing home on a strike or ball and JT stands there with the ball unable to react to me attempting to tag 5 yards out, people know they can’t hit so they use all fast players and bunt/base run cheese, and swinging before the ball leaves DeGrom/Cabrera’s hand is still too late.
Feels like the game is in EA Madden territory with the scripting. The Show 20 was a lot more fun imo. I’ll grind the 5th inning and July POTM offline to keep my team up to date, but if there’s no fix to online gameplay, not putting myself through an hour of me and my opponent attempting to see a 102 pitch once for a chance at a no PCI HR if DDA allows it.

You are constantly talking about FIFA and they have major issues with their players and golden goals. The objectives for ESR and Nketiah are filled with first goal forcing a quit out mentality. It's just how people are, it isnt necessarily the game.
-
I totally agree you can sometimes stick around and overcome any deficit. That's probably not the point. It's just the brazen instances of AI interference that remind people it's not them or their opponent deciding the outcome.
There are a zillion scripts that play out. But this is an example of where folks just quit that I've been on both sides of many times:
Opponent can't seem to hit anything --- I don't at all believe it's because the opponent completely sucks, he/she is likely being NERFED to a certain degree by the code. I don't believe there is a human on this planet that after spending an hour or so playing this game just constantly swings at terrible pitches. Everyone swings at bad pitches now and then, but we've all had opponents that just look comically bad. I truly don't think THEY are that bad..it's a huge coded NERF.
SUDDENLY - for one AB..maybe a string of 2 or 3..the code either takes off the NERF or actually BUFFS the opponent. That's when the run(s) scores. Again, I don't know how many games I've played where a guy is not hitting anything, suddenly gets a homerun on a low (6 inches) inside sinker. Just for grins I'll throw that pitch 4 or 5 more times during the next couple innings and he flails at it. In fact, norrmally, after that one HR or 2/3 string of hits..they resort back to swinging wildly again. It's just these freaky unrealistic moments (constant) that make you hit the quit button. Undoubtedly, these guys that quit on me are experiencing the exact same thing and it's like "fruck it, here we go again..I'm out".
The game also NERF/BUFF the pitcher. This no one can explain off (like some of the fan-boyz try). And this actually happens with the code controlling the pitch animation (the placement of where the metered pitch lines up).
I've had games where, regardless of the pitcher, I'll put the ball exactly where I want it and the meter is reacting exactly as I'm controlling it...Suddenly, that one inning will come calling, I can't get the meter to stop perfectly in the sweet spot..I'm fighting code animation at that point and it has nothing to do with me, the controller, or anything else. It's where the animation translates the metered pitch placement. Then the pitcher that had been having so much success either starts walking people in order NOT to give up that game winning hit. You know when the walks start, the AI is dictating at least one run for your opponent. I've had folks quit in these situations before the first run is scored because they smell what the AI is cookin'.
They put all the elements in of how real-life MLB does work. It's just that the code has to completely ignore our controller input to justify the animation. That ain't fun. And, that's why people quit.
-
To be honest..I've started playing a lot of online chess. No AI cheating there. Win or lose you know you are the one accountable. Can't blame the AI for nerfing/buffing. It's your talent on display against your opponent. It's about as true and pristine competition as you can find online.
-
As someone who loses a lot in this game, I enjoy it when people quit early. I appreciate their willingness to give me a win with less effort. lol
Most people quit because they want easy wins, and they would rather avoid going against someone who's not going to give them one. It's not any more complicated than that.

I don't like it when people quit early. I would always rather finish a game.
But I completely understand when the frustration at watching the AI start kicking your Azz..not your opponent..you would have a knee-[censored] reaction to just bail.
Move on to the next game where the AI nerfs your opponent and buffs you in those key situations. And, it will. You'll win a few..you'll lose a few..and hover around the .500 mark.
Of course, you'll have all those "super humans" that have 580-10 records that are absolutely fictitious.
Unless they play in a completely controlled environment..plugged directly into the gaming server where there are no disconnects, no lag, and they have the credentials that when they sign on they go through a completely different set of "if" statements than the regular Joe out in online land. The "if" statements that don't introduce AI nerfing. And, not only is that "if/case statement" very possible, it takes 5 minutes to code it so.
Ask yourself, why wouldn't the Developers play right off the servers with an advantage not even comprehensible to most. Or, IMO, just generate a bunch of accounts with standings and box scrores, etc, etc. giving the illusion there is a competitive element to this game. That some people are just prodigious and super-human.
It keeps the gullible believing there is some greater force in this game and if they keep buying it, spending money on cards, etc. they might be one of those insanely great players someday. Unless your name is Ramone or have a connection to Ramone..it will never happen.
IMO, RS is no different than Moments or Conquest as far as success/failure rate goes. Same game engine with the same randomized outcomes based on some immersion level win/loss factor the developers feel is best to keep players engaged and laying down their money.

Worse than being victimized by this trash you mention. And it really is trashy code. No, sometimes worse than taking it on the chin from HAL..it's witnessing you're opponent get shelled while you sheeposhly look at your controller knowing you checked up on that 109 mph exit velocity homerun.
When I'm pitching and hit every spot I aim for. 20 K's and complete game without even trying. I know it ain't my talent..I'm just like everyone else in RS that throws a pitch. But when HAL picks you up and carries you..great, though undeserved, things happen.
I hate cheaters and I feel like a cheater when that happens. And it happens all the time. It's how they designed this game. He wins 3 then he loses 2 then he wins 4 then he'll lose 5. It's just the nature of the beast.
