Throwing Out Base Stealers

So almost every time an opponent (online AND offline) steals a base, I have a 50/50 chance of getting the catchers yellow and green timing bar to start up(is this a timing issue on my part??)....And then a lot of the times, I have a better chance throwing them out by just stopping the yellow and green timer as soon as it starts up regardless of if I stop it in the "green" part of the bar. Waiting until the timer gets to the green spot has not given me any advantages at all really..

Am I missing something here?

I have found that hitting the button that corresponds to the base they are stealing as soon as you see/hear them steal pops it up much quicker that waiting.
