Griffey animations
-
Ok I get it!! Have had him on my lineup since Inning 6 with no problems.
And then yesterday, he flat whiffs on fly balls TWICE in one game. Had him in RF and the ball was in the gap, not particularly well hit and easily catchable. Then the animation kicks in, and the ball just drops right behind him. I recently bought Babe and moved Griffey to RF. Is he worse here than LF? I never had problems until now. It cost me a loss and dropped me out of CS.

hes equallyas bad in all fields for those animations keep his arm in RF. if his bat wasnt so lethal hed be gone.

Yep he's terrible in the field for some reason

Belli is in right for me, trout in cf and mays in left. I benched Griffey

It's funny you mention this because I got a legitimately great animation from him yesterday and it made me hopeful that SDS quietly sent out an update for him.
Griffey was in CF and a ball was hit in the gap between CF and RF. He was in a dead sprint and caught it on the warning track, stopped on a dime, planted and fired to 3rd (there was a runner on 2nd who wanted to tag up). I don't think I've seen this particular animation for any OF before. It was really noticeable because he was in a full sprint and somehow stopped all his momentum and threw in the opposite direction insanely fast. I guess it was a fluke

I get his animation all the time at any OF position. That animation for sure has cost me games. You know it’s happening because he’s running to the icon to make the catch then “the jog” kicks in. Instead of him being camped under the ball he jogs allowing the ball to just barely be out of reach landing behind him always allowing a double.
I have only noticed it when he moves to his left. At the end of the day it’s on me because I know his animation could cost me a run or two yet I keep him in there over Ichiro or Gwynn.

Griffey hasn't left CF for me since I earned him in Inning 6. He has played around 750 games and only made 1 error that was more my fault than the animations he gets. He sprints to the ball just fine for me and I've learned that getting to the back of the ball shadow creates a better animation then getting to the side, for example on a ball to the gap run at an angle that almost goes just behind the ball so he finishes with the ball in front of him over taking a direct route to the ball which would have him end up sticking his glove up to his side trying to one arm snag it. Also, I have learned that it's not just Griffey’s animations that make it tough, it's putting players in secondary positions. I have Mays in RF because I won't move Griffey, and Mays has better fielding so in a secondary position he is better than Griffey would be, and he has made more errors in 1/4 the amount of games than I have with Griffey. He misses balls in the gaps, misses grounders here and there and has dropped bloopers that he comes in on. I've had liners hit him in the face and the glove, he looks foolish in RF and that's because in CF he looks like one of the best. Griffey Jr. Is by far my favorite player and fielder and he hasn't let me down once, but I have no doubt if I switched him over to RF he'd be making similar mistakes to what I've had with Mays because the game makes it seem like they don't always know what they're doing.

I have no issues with Griffey on defense. Once I did under run a fly ball and he missed it, but that was my fault.

I haven't had animation issues with him in terms of catching but I did have that stupid jogging issue come up yesterday in a easy out in the foul territory that he could of caught in LF but just jogged to it and it hit the ground by the time he got to it. I hope they fix that stupid jogging animation for catches that can made with a little more hustle.
