Directional hitters are Cancer

I use directional. I’ve been playing since bases-loaded in RBI baseball. My reaction time isn’t quite as good as it what are used to be. I can tell you firsthand that if someone is hitting balls out of the strike zone they are using zone. The directional is not as forgiving at all on pitches in the corners or out of the strike zone.

I use zone and I can't hit a thing today so howdy directional hitting (just kidding) (but honestly I can't hit a thing today)
Same!!!

Just make it so you can search hitting type so zone vs zone and lock the hitting type in game settings. Simple fix for competitive mode but it just doesnt really bother me tbh
-
If they paid the 60+ dollars for this game and want to use directional...thats their prerogative....personally I use zone and analog pitching...some days I do good and somedays I do bad...never stopped to wonder what hitting configuration they were using just tried to improve upon my own shortcomings

Here’s the problem. If they pick an mlb stadium and pitch well enough they can win games because they won’t suffer the consequences of mlb stadium lag.
Huh? Lag is lag, and directional players are not immune. It affects timing, and both zone and directional players control that aspect of the offensive game.
And you can tell if they are a directional hitter because they can’t hit certain pitches but can foul them off. Their ability to hit the most unhittable pitches that zone users struggle with doesn’t match up with why they miss some very easy floaters and meatballs. They tend to be poorly disciplined with their players averages below 280 but yet they have a ton of bombs. That’s usually all they hit.
Curious as to what "unhittable pitches" we can hit that zone players can't, though it's true that most of the high, hard stuff we're lucky to foul off with most players, but high average, high vision cards can do well with the right swing type and good timing. Not sure what you mean with reference to the floaters and meatballs... you can kill mistakes with directional.
As to being undisciplined, that again has nothing to do with the interface (I walk at a decent clip). Averages tend to be lower because results are more in line with real hitting, and don't give you BS results like pulling down and away sliders for no doubt bombs (this [censored] happens because the AI decides what your swing path and bat angle are at contact, and it's ridiculously favorable - directional players have to match that to pitch location). Power hitters have lower averages because they're pulling and swinging for launch angles, whereas contact players top .300 pretty easily while not trying to put a charge into everything.
But it all comes down to preference and the type of game you like; directional is high floor, low ceiling, with simulation like results.
Zone is low floor, high ceiling, with arcade style results for those who can put their little cross-hair on the ball.Lag affects the pci as well so you are wrong there.
Also down and in sliders are harder to hit with zone because you can’t control the bat angle and since it’s vertical it’s more likely to miss. With directional if you time it well it’s more easily hit out for a bomb.
I understand you like attributes taking over but In close low scoring games where one player has to manufacture a run vs a directional player who just has to time one pitch in a mlb stadium where the zone pci can lag its frustrating to lose to someone who is relying on luck and not skill.
[censored], I guess every top player is wrong.
Wait.. or maybe just maybe some people refuse to admit their mistakes.
Buddy I beat a 12-0 player using directional so yeah directional can be kind of cheap. I’m not saying they are hard to beat but when you are playing in an mlb stadium against a guy throwing a 100 sometimes that makes the hitting a little off and the pci definitely lags it makes for a tight game.
Too many of you give the same generic response “ why don’t top players use it” isn’t a valid argument. We aren’t saying it’s OP but it’s definitely cheap when you are playing someone with a poor connection at Minute Maid park and there are a shadows in the batters eye.
The problem in your example is not directional hitting. The problem in your example is the poor connection, playing at Minute Maid Park, and shadows in the batters eye.
If directional hitting is so good, then use it. What's the problem here? We all have the same choices. It is not like you can't use it too if you incorrectly believe it gives an advantage.
True, and in certain situations it could be useful but I never said it was so good. but in low scoring games with shadows and stadium lag it could have its upside especially against guys who are in between being good enough to dominate their opponents to being occasionally shut down by certain pitchers in poor online conditions. You can’t tell me you’ve never played in a close low scoring ball game where a hr could win it?
I will end it with this, directional gives out too many homeruns and needs to give more singles because 4 total bases versus guys having to string multiple hits together is a bit unfair. I have no problem pitching to directional players but I can see where OP is coming from.
-
I don’t care either way but I can see why some people would be frustrated playing them if they aren’t sure how to pitch them. Also pitching to corners is not the key it has more to do with getting them to commit to swing or not.

Lag affects the pci as well so you are wrong there.
Well, I said that lag affects everyone, but if you want to insist that it's extra-super-double-hard if you use a PCI, you go right ahead.
Also down and in sliders are harder to hit with zone because you can’t control the bat angle and since it’s vertical it’s more likely to miss. With directional if you time it well it’s more easily hit out for a bomb.
I suspect sliders down and in are hard to hit for you because you're getting fooled. There are plenty of PCI users who blast them... anyone adept at that system will likely tell you that they destroy pitchers who spam a location because you can just keep your PCI there.
I understand you like attributes taking over but In close low scoring games where one player has to manufacture a run vs a directional player who just has to time one pitch in a mlb stadium where the zone pci can lag its frustrating to lose to someone who is relying on luck and not skill.
That's a very specific situation... but, again with the luck vs. skill thing. You just said that you can't control the bat angle in zone, which is true, so I'm curious as to what you would attribute the AI giving you a favorable bat angle? If it isn't based on input and it's variable, wouldn't a favorable outcome there also be due to luck?
It's very frustrating for me when I so skillfully choose my bat angle based on the pitch location and break, only to see others rewarded with good results for simply pointing the bat at a particular spot and letting the attributes take over to determine for them the angle at which the bat makes contact
Well, not all hitters have the same angle for low and in pitches as some hitters flatten their swing and no I don’t have any particular weakness with low and in sliders as I mash them occasionally.
I agree their is a degree of skill or knowledge to picking your swing path and I wish they would reincorporate swing influence like they used to.
Squaring up the location along with timing is much more skilled than choosing your swing type and having the batters vision determine the accuracy of the swing. With timing windows more narrow than ever there is no distinct advantage with zone vs directional as directional is supposed to have a smaller timing window.
I’m all for people using directional but the slugging percentage needs to be nerfed it produces too many hrs for the effort it takes.

I don’t know about anyone else, but I’m finding directional hitters to be ruining this game with their no skill, just hitting the hit button play. I pride myself on good pitching, yet people are hitting sliders and curves Breaking out of the zone like they are meatballs down the middle. Sure there are some good players that have skill yes, but I’m getting blown out every game now and no one can tell me that everyone got that good over the past week. It’s a setting that needs to be removed and makes this game not enjoyable at all. Directional hitters are cancer for this game and with the developers adding more and more diamond players to DD it’s only going to get worse. So to the developers, please remove directional hitting either in the next update or in the next game because it’s ruining your game. [link text](link url)
I would argue it gets MORE difficult using directional as you climb the ladder.
Not only does your timing have to be perfect, but you can't use your 2nd set of eyes (reticle) to hit a neck high slider, three feet off the plate with Cheslor Cuthbert 475 ft. to the opposite field.
Also, try to pitch better. -

It also takes a lot more skill to walk on your hands than it does to walk on your feet, but is it really necessary, other than to say that you did the harder thing as opposed to the more natural thing?
-
how do you downvote on here?

I understand what the OP is trying to say. It's an analogy (I believe that's right). But cancer is a very bad thing. My grandpa and mother both died form lung cancer. There is nothing about any game that is cancerous. Please just say something like "directional hitters are malignant". That's a little softer. OR whatever..but cancer is very harsh.
I personally am enjoying this game and find nothing even half-way terrible about it. Please don't rain on those of us that are really enjoying our time. I don't mean to offend, but I cringe inwardly every time I hear the word cancer.

The more natural thing would be stride analog with stride using zone and being able to pick the swing type before hand. It’s also a poor analogy as walking isn’t a competitive environment. Unless you are comparing online dd to power walking competitions then you are essentially saying the top players are winning because they walk on their hands...no need to one up me on your approach I see why directional has it’s benefits being that you can skillfully choose your swing path

Yeah, that came out a little snarky... I admittedly came in here a little wound up after the OP's brainless word choice hit a little close to home, and likely came looking for a fight. My apologies for any offense.
This is really my thing to get over, but I just can't stand the reticle; always thought it was super weird in a baseball game, as it just seems odd to control where the batter's eyes are looking, as if they'd be otherwise looking for fire engines like Rube Waddell if I didn't force them to track the ball. Plus it makes me feel more like I'm back playing Missile Command rather than taking swings... I just really like the feel of having a plan at the plate, looking for the right pitch, and timing it with the right swing type for the situation.
That analogy was really meant to show that moving the reticle is indeed difficult, but something I'd assume that a hitter already does perfectly well (watching the baseball and trying to put their bat on it). I like the competitive walking comparison reference, though; it made me imitate speedwalking in front of my daughter last night and she got a good chuckle out of that. I do kind of feel like the top players are walking on their hands, though, but that's what the game rewards and kudos to them for being good at it. I'm not.
Anyway, thanks for the banter and good luck to you. If we meet up in a game, I assure you it won't be in an MLB stadium because I can't stand that [censored], either.

What’s wrong with MLB stadiums? Not all are laggy like Globe Life or Minute Maid. I use Truist all the time and it plays fair. You still need decent PCI input to get it out and it’s not so huge that a 10 PCI rating with late timing ends up as a triple. It’s the right combination of hitter and pitcher friendly without the lag.

Shadows can be pretty bad there sometimes. Suddenly Edwin Jackson becomes Bob Gibson
