Respectfully I disagree. A batter needs the option to slow down a pitcher. Your plan would be 3 seconds and then rapid fire pitches every at bat.
There should be a 2 second window before each pitch where the pitcher can't pitch. A pitch every 2 seconds is plenty fast for pace of play, and 2 seconds is long enough to do whatever you want with the r2. It removes the cheese because for those 2 seconds the pitcher won't be able to start their windup and after those 2 seconds the batter can no longer r2. I would almost guarantee the time between most pitches in most online games is ~2 seconds anyway.

You mean you want a chance to mess up someone’s timing.
You don’t care about slowing down, you want to throw off the pitcher when he is starting delivery.

Yesterday an online opponent was pressing R2 before almost every single pitch. I would wait a few seconds after the pressing-R2 icon disappeared to make sure my pitch wasn't going to get f-ed with, and then the icon would pop up again. In other words, they were pressing R2 (for more than 2 seconds), I wouldn't pitch immediately due to R2 having been pressed, and then they would press R2 again. All before one single pitch is thrown. This scenario is indefensible by the 'I need more time' crowd and the 'I'm just looking up information' crowd. There's clear intention to disrupt the pitcher, and I'm certain R2 is used mostly in this way. And it is not baseball, that's 100% clear too. I said to my partner, who dislikes most sports in real life and certainly dislikes sports video games, "There's a feature in the game where you can freeze the pitcher" (and then showed it to him on a vs CPU game) and he sarcastically replied, "Yeah, like you could do that in a real game!" Honestly, this is clear even to baseball outsiders.
-
For ppp can you not simply press L1 like with meter pitching? Because if someone does r2 and it messes up my location I step off the mound.
Frankly now that I see the icon it doesn't affect me like it did last year. Also, I'd like the pitchers pitches just automatically flashed between pitches because again people like me legit forget. First pitch of each at bat should automatically be delayed by enough time for me to see how you pitched me last time.
-
Of course people abuse R2. Put limits on it too.

No. The opposite. 2 seconds where the batter can r2 and the pitcher can't start his meter/windup. That way after the 2 seconds the pitcher can start his meter/windup and the batter won't have the option to r2 and mess up the timing.

Agreed I hate that the most. You wait for the icon to go away to start your meter and they press it again. It happens almost every game and it is a clear and obvious attempt to mess up the pitcher and get a pitch down the middle. Thats why it would be nice if after the 2 second window they could no longer press r2 and the pitch wouldn't have to worry about being interrupted.
I defended the r2 guys until after the exact scenario you described started happening every game. Its an exploit and exploit should be patched.
-
Now wait a minute here, "a batter needs to have a way to slow down a pitcher" ??? A batter has absolutely no control over when a pitcher is to pitch.
R2 should not be allowed to stop anything, if you want time, call time, that is real baseball. R2 should still be able to display info, but not stop the pitchers meter.

Wonder if we played the same person. From the very first pitch to the last pitch (when they dashboarded, as if that negates the loss), they held r2, let up for a second, then held it again. When they pitched they would quick pitch (which doesn’t bother me) and then randomly take max time between pitches. A real cancer to play against but satisfying to beat.
-
The only real solution to this problem is for both sides to change the way they play the game.
The R2 holders who intentionally try to mess up their opponent’s input need to learn to hit without exploits.
The R2 to slow down the opponent’s pitcher guys need to ease up on how often and for how long they hold R2.
The guys that want to play a RS game in 20 minutes need to slow down and come set with their pitchers when an opponent holds R2.
Will this happen? I doubt it, but the issue isn’t the game, or the R2 feature, it’s the players.
-
It's interesting how on one side of the issue there's an actual feature in the game (triggered by a control) and on the other side the users affected by the use of that control. We're not talking 50/50 here no matter how any R2 supporter tries to paint it. It's 100% batter ability to freeze and disrupt against normal gameplay (pitching). The speed of the normal gameplay is a conversation, for sure, but it's not the real issue here. It's gaslighting by R2 users to expect neutrals to evaluate both sides of a coin when we're nowhere near 50/50. It's really 100/0.

Lord have mercy this community is a special kind the biggest problem with the R2 is that you can press it multiple times per at bat. My solution will end that

Shouldnt be any r2 all ur doing is pressing A u guys need to adjust ue batting gloves?

Your solution is great except it won't satisfy some of the R2 pressers. Some have stated directly on here that they "spam" (their word) R2 every time they feel quick-pitched (subjective obvs). There's no making them happy unless they can flick R2 whenever they want and they've stated as much.

This exactly is the problem.
“To Hell with these people” means everyone stubbornly just keeps doing what they’re doing and hopes mommy and daddy at SDS will wave their magic wand to make R2 go away.
