Look at it this way. Walk into a casino:
Marketplace = sit at the blackjack tables
Packs = walk on past blackjack dealers and head straight to the craps tables. -
The chances of NOT getting a diamond in a 50 pack are 0.98^50 = 0.36. So, you have a 64 percent chance of pulling at least one diamond and a 36% chance of getting nothing. Do with that what you like.

Learn how odds work. 1:50 odds of it a diamond does not mean you will get 1 diamond every 50 packs, and people don't understand that which is why they call them scams, etc... 1:50 odds of a diamond means for each pack you open, you have a 1:50 chance of a diamond, or a 49:50 chance you won't -- every time you open a single pack you have those same odds,just 50 times over. So you are going to open 50 packs that say you have a 49:50 chance of not having a diamond, and three way repeating odds work mathematically, that means if you repeat 1:50 odds 50 times over you have a 65% chance of pulling a diamond.... If you are comfortable dumping your stubs for a 65% chance at my a diamond, and that diamond could be a 10k stub card -- then go ahead.
The smart money says, rip packs when they are rewards for things you do in the game, but never buy packs with stubs, put your stubs towards specific players you want.

Packs can't be a scam. I just loaded my account and a guy on my friend list pulled Sale, Arenado and two Verlanders in the span of a few minutes. It think that's the 20th [censored] notification I've received for him. WHY DOES EVERYONE GET DIAMONDS BUT ME?

Packs are the one & only thing Madden does better than The Show. In Madden I pull TONS of great cards but in the show it’s ridiculously bad. This past weekend for example I earned 52 regular packs over the weekend & opened them all up at once - Zero diamonds & Two golds, That’s it. And I usually only pull a couple diamonds a year. I would NEVER recommend to someone to buy packs.

Do you want to gamble open packs if you want to play it safe buy cards off the market, You have a high chance of pulling a diamond buying Headliners. I Did gamble on some headliners and I pulled Rodriguez, I sold him off cause I am trying to complete Collections. If I am going to gamble on packs it will only be with headliners or single packs. I can live with not getting anything good for 1,500 every now and then. That is easy to make up on the market.

If you buy packs never buy bundles. Bundles pretty much negate any Diamond under 50k. It’s like a deposit bonus on a gambling site you can’t cash out till it’s all gone. If you buy a couple and you get a Diamond you can move on with the W (nobody does but the option is there). If you get a Diamond in the first 10 of a 50 pack you will slowly watch your profit disappear with the remaining 40 packs you already bought.

The only packs I open are free ones. Never buy packs unless you have stubs to waste.
I did pull trout last night in a free standard pack I got from the program. -
