What’s the Salary for?
-
I think it would be kinda cool to have a system similar to nba 2k where you could take rtts player salaries and actually buy things with it. Otherwise, during arbitration I could ask for a bajillion dollars and it wouldn’t matter!

Yeah, salaries are kind of pointless in this game. I have done one thing in the past to make the salary meaningful in at least one way. Take long term contracts at 30k/yr. This will allow your team to spend it on better complementary players. I know, it’s immersion breaking, but much of the game is these days...

Yeah this has been exactly what I do too. If contracts mean nothing, I'd rather the money go to lineup protection for my player.

Be wary of that. In a previous year's version (I want to say 2017 or thereabout), I signed a long term contract (10 years) at $30k per year for my favorite team. Seeing as I was 90+ OVR and multiple time all star, etc. I figured they would never trade me given that sweetheart deal. I mean - why would they trade me? Not to relieve salary pressure. Not to improve at my position - I was the best in the game.
The very next year they trade me away for 2 career minor league (D potential) guys. To a team I despise. Which was also one of the worst teams in the majors and was never going to the playoffs.
And I very much doubt that the trading logic in RTTS has been improved much over the versions. Just saying...

Oh man, the trade logic in every iteration of MLB The Show has been hilarious!!! It’s almost as if trades happen because something, anything needs to happen. For this reason I have always turned the trade slider to 1. (I have been altering sliders in ‘21 and using a work around to keep Archetype progression working. I can confirm that altering sliders only affects XP, not Archetype progression.) However, this is off topic.

I have a theory that affects your experience gains in the field. the higher the salary, the greater your rewards will be, but of course this can only be linked to the progression of the game, plus a variable that probably doesn't change at all in the long run.

I used to try and do this in the old shows by tanking my salary but they would counteroffer me back to 30 mil

I got a 600k offer for 1 year after hitting 50+ homers and winning the mvp. It’s ridiculous how low they offer you.
