What is it With Postseason Travis d'Arnaud?
-
There has got to be a love affair going on between PS d'Arnaud and the game. His stats look great, don't get me wrong, but he's not the best catcher defensively and his bat is especially lacking for me.
The game puts d'Arnaud at C every time I have the game generate a lineup. The game insists that I use him, even though I haven't had much success with him (his bat is more prone to singles than anything else, which isn't great when he has no steal or BR aggro at all), hence the aforementioned "love affair".
It could be that there very few good catchers in the game that aren't unaffordable (I'm looking at you, Johnny Bench, Gary Carter, and Mike Piazza, with a Buy Now of 0 and Sell Now of 1,000,000. Three of the greatest catchers in all of baseball history, and we can't flipping use them. Shameful). So that's another thing SDS dropped the ball on (pun not intended)—a decent amount of catchers that aren't earned through online play.
I just struck out with him just now, lol, so I don't know why the game considers him to be a Catcher god. I try my best with him at the plate, but he either gets singles or nothing at all. And this is against right-handers! Not left!
Either he's secretly bad or I'm losing my mind. Both seem plausible at this point

I wouldn't trust the randomly generated lineups for [censored]. That thinks that Sandberg is the best card in the game

I have tons of trust issues with that thing, lol. I have a "test" squad with which I occasionally ask the game what it thinks would be the best lineup.
Let's just say I'm usually never impressed. This thing thinks that power is more important than contact, speed, or fielding. It won't put a single diamond-level fielder in the outfield. "Trout? Nah. Walker? Nah! Just put Sheffield and Soto out there. Becuz POWER."

He's bad. I agree

I just wish there were better options for an endgame catcher.

Salvador Perez is the best all around catcher in the history of this game IMO. Foxx has a better bat but is terrible behind the plate.

If they put Mauer in DD. That should be endgame.

He hit 2 Bombs off me lastnight in 1 gm in ranked 750...
