    I tried to play another H2H game, but it’s just hit after hit after hit. Think we were up to 7-4 after 2 1/3 innings. Turned it off. Super arcade slugfest 2020. Effect on me was basically: 🤢

    Time to do something more fun, like watch reruns of things I’ve already seen on Netflix.

    I get mad sometimes especially during a showdown double play fest, but for the most part I still have fun when I play. The real downside is the carpal tunnel from being addicted to working the market so I can collect as many player cards as possible.

    I agree completely. I believe that better players generally win because they more consistently get their PCIs in a place that gives them more favorable dice rolls. But as we all know more consistent pci placement won’t always lead to a win. What’s frustrating is that you know when the dice rolls are not going your way. After a few innings of having two out of your three outs each inning coming from good pci placement that results in the ball thudding off the bat and winding up in the middle of the outfield, you begin to realize how little control you have. And for the pitching, when a pitch goes in the opposite direction of where you aim it that leads to a homerun 90% of the time, it just serves as another reminder how random the gameplay is. There’s another post on the forum that asks people about the importance of the gameplay experience. Honestly, I’m finding it hard to find really any positive gameplay experiences at this point. I feel like I’ve taken the red pill and all I can see is a black screen full of green ones and zeroes, and win or lose, I walk away unsatisfied. I think I’d like to quit too, but I’m having a hard time finding games that can keep my attention any more.

    Checking In here since misery loves company. Blew 2 saves back to back while having a game tying hr knocked down/almost robbed by bronze fielder JD Martinez at left. Yeah, I hate life.

    My whole point of bringing this up is because it somehow led me to SDS website 'Careers' which they currently have an opening for the position of "Senior Gameplay Programmer" directly related to this game. The job description reads as follows:

    "PlayStation’s brand new San Diego Study campus is seeking a Gameplay Programmer to join the team behind the critically acclaimed “MLB - The Show” game series.

    In this role you will work on the decision logic and control systems that craft the game play experience. Systems worked on may include fielding, base running, batting, physics, pitching, catching, general animation integration, locomotion, and many more. You will partner with designers, animators, and producers to identify problems, provide solutions, and improve the overall quality of the player experience."

    Now, I don't know how long SDS has been looking to fulfill this position, since gameplay seems to be horrid year after year. But at least it acknowledges that SDS recognizes that gameplay is definitely something that needs to be addressed, and perhaps explains as to why gameplay seems to be below standards, and for that, it has eased my mind in giving them a "temporary pass." 🙂

    Just lost a 1-0 game in the 10th. I struck him out 19 times. He struck me out 14. Giolitto’s pitches were so fast that I couldn’t see them. Maybe it’s just eye fatigue, but his 95 mph fastball seemed like 115. It was such a helpless feeling. I think I need to take a few days off from the show.

    This year has been crazy. Thought I’d be all set after ‘19. Knew who I could hit and pitch with successfully and went into ‘20 ready to go. Not the case. Cards I smashed with last year can’t hit this year. Unbelievably sucks. I’ve got a ton of stubs and afraid to try anyone new

    Hilariously, this is what we all try to do anyway. But nobody listens. I’d do this job on a voluntary basis, personally. I spend that much time playing MLB the Show, while finding problems with gameplay, then posting here about potential solutions I’d like to see implemented in the future, that this job would be like a vacation. Hire me!!!

    In fact here’s three things to work on for free. Keep the consultation fee, spend it on game development, lol.

    1. The barrel of a baseball bat is not four or five times the size of a baseball. Why is PCI so big? I understand the concept of user engagement and that making it too difficult to make contact with the ball will make less skilled users prone to frustration. That said, when you factor in the outer PCI which apparently represents vision, the area which you can potentially make contact with looks to be twenty times the size of a baseball. Go outside and attempt to hit a ball with a bat and ask yourselves if this represents the game of baseball and hitting a ball with a bat accurately. Shrink PCI next year.

    2. While pulling the ball does tend to generate velocity IRL, swinging early won’t help a hitter unless they get the barrel of the bat on the baseball. In MLB the Show, swinging early is the entire skill gap, with good PCI placement often barely considered over swinging early. Swinging the bat like a madman hopped up on adderall isn’t going to get you on a MLB roster if you’re just wiffing, yet in game, it’s enough to make Chris Davies into Babe Ruth. Not good enough, PCI placement should be more of a factor than swing timing. Power hitters can muscle it out to dead CF or oppo if they get a good swing on the ball.

    3. I’m not even going to break this one down. Just put pitching back to how it was in ‘17. That was the last game where I felt like pitching mattered and was a skill based endeavour. How can you release Maddux, Smoltz and Glavine and have them all be useless due to pitching being an afterthought? C’mon. Go play ‘17 on the pitching side if you need a refresher. The ball goes where you aim it and everyone didn’t need a sinker to be effective.

    #3 is so important. I made WS in 2017, and it was all pitching. My batting average was .240. That was the last year I played. This year, I’m at 866 and afraid to start a match fearing I match with someone who is good at #2.

    My hitting has improved a little in recent weeks, practicing the clicks method for FB timing. I’ll now try to be earlier on everything as well. But it does suck to make huge investments in pitching and not be able to hold an opponent down for three innings.

    Sadly I’m expecting the exact same game next year, but upgraded in terms of visuals and max resolution for next gen. I’m obviously really hoping for a rebuild from the ground up, this game engine has never worked well, but typically, I’m expecting the same game but prettier, which will obviously be a devastating blow after 3 years of substandard gameplay.
