Locking in cards

Hi,
So once you've locked in a collection, you are not able to lock in new cards that arrive afterwards? An example of this is the teams collections. Once you lock in, that tem is considered completed. But the roster updates arrive and there are new cards to get. Is there a way to lock in those cards even when the team is completed? I am not looking for additional rewards. Just trying to avoid selling or exchanthem in the future.
