I'm not even being sarcastic. I'm honestly asking if there's an article or video somewhere that explains what determines hitting outcomes because I would LOVE to know. I don't think it exists though because I honestly don't think it CAN exist. I think SDS has created a hitting engine with so much randomness involved that they literally can't explain how it works and so they just... don't.
Here's an example. I started at 550 this ranked season because I barely played last season. But I'm a WS player and I've beaten pitching-rebel (this year) and McGunski (last year) so I like to think I'm not a scrub. Here's hitting outcomes for my last 8 games.
My hits:. 83
My opponent hits: 87
My HRs: 12
My opponent HRs: 30...wait for it...6. 36!!!
So not only is my opponent getting rewarded with a HR on a staggering 41% of their base hits, but their hitting HRs at almost 3x the pace that I am. How am I honestly supposed to compete? I would love for SDS to come on here and explain this phenomenon to me. Explain to me why, over an 8 game stretch. 41% of my opponents hits are HRs but I have perfect swing outs with 99 Rollins (twice), prestiged 99 Thome, and 99 Dawson. Explain how I can put a hanging sinker in the middle of the PCI with good timing with 99 Mantle for a 94mph exit velo (so not even "hard hit" by StatCast standards), but my opponent can hit an oppo flyball with "ok" contact that carries out.
Explain what we need to do as users to be rewarded by this system that YOU created but can't seem to explain.
