Am I Crazy?

I think every card should be released on Day One. Similar to the way they did those first 30 Diamond Cards, every Ranked Season Reward, Event Reward, BR Reward, Moment (or Showdown, whatever that will be) should be available to choose once the requirement is reached.
It’s not cool that so many great cards aren’t released until the end of the game cycle. We barely get to use some of them before the game dies.
I think the way they did choice packs was fantastic, as well as the way they did the five 99s (Gwynn, Thomas, Snider, Kershaw, Robinson).
Of course, I’m not saying everybody should have a G-Squad on Day One, I’m saying the choosing of the reward is what I think will be better.
So for RS, you know how as the season wore on all the past WS rewards were available to be chosen? Why can’t it be like that on release day? You still can only choose one per season, and would need to make WS every season to get them all (or buy a lot of stubs, which works for SDS ;)).
Same for Events. We could have the different events but once the 20 wins are reached, we choose our reward. That I have the option of picking my favorite players earlier in the game rather than wait until January to get a Sig Goose or Andruw Jones.
Ok, y’all. Lay it on me. What am I missing? Where is my blind spot?
-
No, releasing them throughout the year regulates how fast the cards can be attained, if some players grind through the whole year in 1 month and others are still using squads with golds on them it would be chaos. SDS has to release them with time locks because if they don't there will be a major gap in quality of team for almost every game you play until July or August
-
But the regulations comes from the time in between Ranked Seasons and Events, no?
I mean, there are grinders regardless. Dudes that reached Level 100 diamond way before others. They got their rewards.
As for stub spenders, I see no difference in this than in the people who finish the collections on Day One and had Willie, Pudge, and Hornsby while I was playing with silvers.
You could be right. I don’t know. I just think releasing such sought after cards like Pujols so late is problematic.
-
I agree, but on another point they did it this way on mlb 19 to keep the game alive as long as possible. Maybe that worked because every year i stoped playing the show in late november, this year i'm still playing.
-
I think we're just content junkies after being blessed this year. I'll agree, to an extent, and say more cards could be released earlier, but that's more of a "give me 75 new legends this year" attitude, which is asking alot.
If they released ALL the content on day one, I probably wouldn't play past July. Its smart business for them.
-
Please enlighten me on how you're going to release August POTM, Home Run Derby, and Finest cards on Day 1.
Thanks. I'll hang up and listen.
-
Obviously, POTM, Finest and Derby cards cannot be released until those things have past. I would have thought that would have been obvious.
I’m talking about Flashback cards and Legend cards.
Apparently, I’m the only one that would prefer to have Pujols or Jones or Gossage before New Years Day.
-
Absolutely not, yeah some cards came out a bit too late in 19, but this isn't the solution. Releasing every card day one removes much of the excitement through the year. I always liked Fridays, wondering what new card comes in.
Same thing for the new ranked season, always liked speculating on who was next etc.If this was a thing, I'd probably be done with the game in a couple months and wouldn't feel a real need to do anything beyond that.
-
If they made all SS cards available day one, what would be the incentive to continue playing RS or BR or Events once you already had the cards you wanted?
Sure some cards were released late, but overall I think the way they did it this year kept most people interested in playing those modes longer in order to obtain the new rewards.
-
Maybe I’m not clear in what I’m saying.
So they released a total of 14 WS Rewards this year, right? It was something like three cards released for the first season, then they just kept adding one reward per season, and allowing us to choose between that reward and all the previous ones.
So now we are at a point where if you make WS, you’re choosing one of fourteen cards.
Why can’t that be the way it is from Day One? You can still only make WS once per season, and claim one reward. You could make WS every season and still not have every card.
By that same method, Event rewards could be released in the same manner. POTM cards could not, obviously.
It CHOICE that I’m asking for.
But okay, not a soul agrees with me. I’m just mad that I really like some of the later releases, and would have liked to get 500 at-bats with them, but I’m over this game now. Meanwhile, I got a lot of bats with cards I didn’t even really like early in the year simply because they were the best I had at that position.

So who’s ever going to use a WS reward that doesn’t compare to somebody like Ruth or Chipper? Alex Gordon was good when he was released, but with this idea there’s no point in even having other guys like that as WS rewards.
As for events, that would take away the whole point of them. Event rewards are supposed to be exclusive to their respective events. People who play those events get a card that will be quite rare in the future, because it cannot be earned anymore. Nobody would choose an 86 HW Ryan Braun if much better SS cards are also available.
This would basically make any WS or event reward that isn’t the best completely useless, to the point where there might as well not even be lesser WS or event rewards because nobody would need to use them.
You aren’t supposed to have a God squad week one. Spreading content out helps keep lineups from getting too OP too quickly.
-
We get what you are saying, and we've all listed why it's not a good idea, I think Trucker put it best there ^.
I'll add on to the business perspective side of it, it does not make sense for SDS either.
It would create a lot of excitement, maybe the first month and people rush to get the cards they want, but after that, that drive or desire falls away.
Whereas, in the current model (and this is just a simple analogy, SDS made it very friendly in 19 where you did not have to rush to buy stubs every week), SDS releases a card every week. Not every card will be highly sought after, but it carries that drive to get cards, and extends it all year.
Instead of "I need the 99 Babe Ruth, it is way better then the 99 Ty Cobb and I have no reason to buy Cobb"
Instead, Ty Cobb is released first, Babe Ruth doesn't exist yet. Therefore "I need to buy stubs to get that awesome Ty Cobb Card" and a couple months later "I need to buy stubs to replace Cobb with Babe Ruth"!You could even replace the word "buy stubs' with "I need to play to earn" and it works the same. It provides engagement with the game year round, whether that be buying or playing.

Got it. I’m crazy. Lol
-
But people get god squads on Day One anyway when they do the collections immediately after release. I don’t see how my way makes that any worse.
But it appears everyone else likes the slow release. I guess I am the only one that doesn’t. When they release a great card late it doesn’t make me want to play the game any more frequently. It makes me mad that they didn’t release it earlier. But I guess I’m rare in feeling that way.

There are people that have "better" cards then some at the start, but not really "god squads" at the beginning. You can't look at a squad from day one, and then look at a squad now and say, "Eh they're both god squads". I mean the first WS rewards were guys like Bret Boone and Alex Gordon, the only real 99's were Hornsby/Mays/Pudge and the XP reward path guys.
So many people used Lofton the first few months, you don't see that now. Your way completely changes that.
I had the 86 David Robertson in my pen for the longest time, but in your way, he's obsolete the first day.
-
I thought they did a great job with choice packs and stubs earned via gameplay, though. Fantastic. My only gripe is the slow release of cards.
And pitching. Pitching sucked. Haha.
-
I kinda agree, most people play this for 6-7 months and have never seen or used Babe Ruth since SDS paid for his rights, it’ll be the same thing next year. Some people wanna feel super special and grind every card to tell you how easy and free it is...3500 hours later. I’d rather SDS unlock all the players early but force people to choose between them without the ability to unlock them all until a much much later date. That way we’d actually get line up diversity with great cards day 1.

So how do you propose to make the SS Alex Gordon's type cards useable? How do any of those cards become usable when you can get 99's? How do you propose SDS drive stub sales throughout the year when there is no excitement of new cards? How do you keep people engaged?

It also sounds like, based on his wording, that they wouldn’t be on the market until late in the year? Because if they were still on the market, it wouldn’t matter if we could only choose one, people would just buy whoever else they wanted off the market. But making WS rewards unsellable would make lots of people very upset.
This just doesn’t make much sense.

Because you guys are still struggling to grasp the very simple concept (Which SDS already does to a minor degree) that you don’t GET a team full of 99s the first week, there just AVAILABLE the same way Kershaw Ryan and others were this past year. Just add more choices, and room for choices to be made.
Alex Gordon was useable for people that wanted to use him. He was quite easily replaceable at anytime. I would have liked to use SS Bautista or Edwin anytime before 9 months of the game had passed, why not make Edwin, Gordon, Goldschmidt and the other mediocre SS available at the same time? You can choose yours I can choose mine. I don’t need mine, yours, and 15 different everyone else’s. There’s no reason to make some cards like those available 9 months later in the 9th inning 100 star choice pack and Alex Gordon the first month. Some people’s teams didn’t even get a SS for half the year how is that fun. Just let people choose what’s the harm?
Why release Gossage and the final Moments extreme segment with a month left? If anyone could have beat those missions in the first month with regular diamonds or golds they should be rewarded. People would rather sit around and wait for another treat from SDS is the issue. Jump, roll over, play dead, then these 120 games and collect your SS Vlad.
