Returning after a 5 years hiatus
-
Hi everyone,
So I got the itch to play some mlb a few weeks ago and decided to pick up the show at a reasonable price. Things have definitely changed in 5 years. Conquest games, all these player missions, daily tasks, team identities... I am wondering if the game (season) in itself is even important. I've played a lot in these 2 weeks and I don't see how one can go about even completing it unless they have deep pockets or are really really good. Some of the challenges like getting 8 hits in 3 games or 8 total bases in 1 game or 3 xbox hits in a gameon veteran is really hard. Especially when you can't control the outcome. You are sitting 3-2 and the pitcher throws you a whopper of a ball and it's either you swing and have no chance or you take the walk...either way you waste an at bat when you only have 4 in a game. They should have the pitch count reset after you get a walk and still keep the at bat.
Anyways, getting off topic, but is there realistically a way of completing all the collections without dropping serious coin or playing on line? Because I just played Kerry Wood and the only way I can unlock him is by beating the Cubs on all star because I don't play on line. Is it like that for the rest of the players?
Just looking for tips and hints for someone who doesn't play on line or pays extra for packs.
My main goal will be to finish L.S. I am missing the 90+ diamonds but I think it is doable.
Ad for the rest...no chance. Unless the cards and prices come way down before the start of 21?

You are rewarded the more you play (which makes sense).
And yes, 95% of the player programs are similarly structured where skipping the online missions typically will require either beating a team on AS and/or completing an exchange.

Just by playing you will make a lot of stubs. So do all those moments and missions, you’ll eventually beat them and you’ll earn XP and stubs along the way. You can also buy low sell high in the market to get stubs quicker.
So how does one hit with Guerrero. I can't hit jack with him in the nationals team mission ? There really isn't a fastball to sit on so what is the next best pitch?

Yeah with Woods I tried the exchange and I was still short on amount needed so it either beat it on all star or play online.....
Would beating the Cubs in conquest in all star work or is it only in play now mode? -
Play Now only

I havent been playing online, and started late. I believe I can complete almost everything outside the Red Prestige Diamond upgrades which are online-only.
Flip cards if you can. Learn how to use the auction house to make stubs, and also get cards for exchanges. Exchanges are the great short cut for many things in this mode
Moments can be frustrating, but stick with it. I always try to get a really good outcome with the first At-Bat or I quit and restart quick. I find sometimes I get on a roll and pass like 4 moments in a row. At times it feels like I cant get anything done. Look up 'dashboarding' for the multi-game moments.
The conquests are great ways to build up a lot of the offline stat requirements as well as the Daily program missions. Great rewards too.
As far as "Beat team X".... you need to do it in Diamond Dynasty under the Extended Play box and play vs CPU in a 9-inning game. It gets easier as you unlock good cards and you get better.

It’s hard to lose a CPU game on All-Star if you have a good batting lineup and don’t make pitching mistakes. On games I have to win on AS to advance missions, I use a pitcher that I can hit outside corners with fastballs and K with sliders. I’ve been using Greinke in those kinds of games recently and haven’t lost. Hitting on AS against CPU, just work the pitching count and you’ll get walks and pitches to hit. Easy peazy. By the way, the CPU in Moments is not the same. The CPU plays well above itself in moments. Drives me nuts and it really needs to be toned down some.

Yeah the Guerrero is marked easy I believe and I still can't do him for some reason where as I can do most veteran ones. The only a.s. I won in a game was in conquest beating the Padres. So it will be something.
Oh and for flipping, yeah I've been doing that quite well. Up to 197K but in the grand scheme of things gets me one really good card diamond. I regret not getting the game in March. Seem to be playing catch up to everyone and the market is going crazy.
Or limited cards like legends and such....do they flip as well as live series?
And the when exchanging players, any way to filter on a specific setting like f.A.? I wish I locked that one in later....its hard to know if they are part of the collection or not. Once you've collected you can't add more to the list.
