FINAL GUESS

What if the clues are about an actual card and not the player himself?
-
I partly hope its Reggie Stocker, because it will be insane and partly don't want it to be because I'll actually have to care about the Collection.
-
I think it will be Ruth.
I think there is also a good chance it could be Maris, i mean both Maris and Mantle were chasing Ruth in 61, until Mantle got hurt, and with Mantle in the game, it makes sense.
I think there is an outside shot that it is DiMaggio.
Everyone else really feels like either an underwhelming pick or long shot pick.
-
Phil Kiekro.

My gut says Babe Ruth.... but thinking about it, having a Yankee as the main collection reward and a Yankee as the main live collection reward is redundant.
I would love Ty Cobb. But I think the player is going to have some semblance of power, which eliminated the dead-ball era.
I think they stay away from the steroid era for some reason
Which brings me to my final guess: Frank Robinson.

One guess I haven't seen...
It's the 25 year anniversary of Cal Ripken breaking the streak. Could the collection reward Ripken and Gehrig?
That makes a lot of sense!!! I’ll go with your answer

Robinson would be awesome, not sure how it fits the clues, but that would be a must collect for me..

It’s gonna be Ruth and I’m going to be pretty disappointed. Really wish they’d step up and bring in a new legend for the main reward.
I do too, but Bonds, Arod, and Aaron/Clemente are the only players that remotely compare to Honus last year, in the game or new legends. None of thise seem like midseason drops to me. No matter who it is, it will be disappointing to someone because no one compares to a 5 tool shortstop with that positional flexibility. Babe, Ted, Sosa, Mcgwire, and Frank are bad defensively/slow/can be easily replaced. Mays would be worth it but there is 0 chance they make him a collection reward 2 years in a row. Only current legend in the game remotely worth it besides Mays is Foxx with a C secondary IMO. I will do the collection regardless
If they’re following the Wagner model of last year which is dropping an all around card those 3 you outlined (Aaron/Arod/Bonds) would be ideal as they all where 5 tool superstars and you can justify giving them 90+ on everything. I just don’t want to be stuck with a Babe Ruth that can mash but can’t play a single position adequately. I think they did a good job with Honus last year but this year if it’s not a new legend it’s probably going to be disappointing.

Could be Joe DiMaggio
Wouldn't be Dimaggio cause Mantle is in the game. This collection card is supposed to be the best at his position and Dimaggio is far less of a player than Mantle. Plus they hated each other.

How do you think clemente belongs here? he won't have any power. Sosa was 30/30 guy and was good defensively with a strong arm before 1998. If it's a singature card then it will be the second best card in the game imo.

I've always said "Blue Jays fans are simply Maple Leaf fans with nothing better to do in the summer"
Thank you for confirming.

I wouldn't say Aaron was a 4 tool player as he didn't really run that much in his 23 year career there is only 9 seasons where he had 15+ SB the rest where below 10. Same can be said of Arod as he has a career .250 average.

Honus wasn't truely a new legend he had been in the game years ago. Same thing with Tris Speaker and Satchel Paige.

Not fair to compare any pre-'Obannon v. NCAA' games to today.

I don't know how this is relevent to me?

I hope he’s a right handed batter so I know I won’t want him.

Clemente doesn't need 125/125 power. Honus didn't either.

Mantle averaged 8 steals a year in his career and they gave him 90+ speed. I’m sure they wouldn’t have an issue giving arod or Aaron who actually stole 30+ bases in season above 90 speed.
