3B: Potential issues

SDS

So, I have an interesting issue. I love my team, but 3B has been a little bit of problem for me defensively in Ranked the past few days. I currently am platooning Dever's FOTF and Chapman (late inning defense purposes). However, I'd like to have a more permanent solution.

I'm looking hard at Brett and Schmidt. Brett is smooth from the tiny sample size I've had with the TA Moments he's been in. Schmidt, who I like a lot - I have some issues with the stance and swing a bit, but I can adjust I suppose.

I'm sitting on a mountain of stubs to finish the Mantle grind (almost there). Is Bryant or Mathews worth the extra stubs?? Chipper would be another option if it wasn't for his defensive metrics.

Here is my team so far...

1B: Ortiz 99
2B: Biggio Sig. Series 99
SS: Correa POTM 95
3B: Devers FOTF 88
RF: Griffey Sr. Prime 93
CF: Trout Live 95
LF: Bellinger POTM 97
C:atcher: Posey 99 MVP

What do you all suggest? I value great defense and contact mostly. Looking really hard at the Brett card. I have more than enough power in my current lineup. Thanks in advance.

SDS

Killebrew is the best power hitting 3b in the game.

I'm looking for really solid defense mostly along with great contact. Power is nice to have, but not a must really with my lineup so far. How does that card play defensively for you?

SDS

Mike Schmidt Phillies TA, he covers all the options here (power, Fielding is a 95 across the board, even has some speed)

SDS

I personally love George Brett... and according to the comment above mine you can't go wrong with Schmidt either... Either of those two and you should be set.

SDS

If you have Sandberg or Jackie I would throw them at 3rd

SDS

Nolan Gorman FS. Best card in my lineup (including Mantle) and plays solid D at 3B and 1B. Gonna be hard to replace that card when (eventually) 99 Chipper comes out.

SDS

I love Brett, but he’s already made 2 errors in the first 5ish games. I am hoping it’s a fluke because he is a diamond fielder and he was solid defensively last year.

As imagined, as all cards seem to play terribly at random times.
He made slightly more mistakes as Schmidt did when I used him.

Actually, funny you should mention it. I'm only 20 points off from unlocking that Jackie 99 Sig. Series card. Playing that card at a secondary position gives me pause. Have you played him at 3B?

SDS

I've played him at 3rd a few times, he's definitely not a superstar over there but I love his bat. I usually keep him at 2nd and play Sandberg at 3rd because Sandberg keeps a gold shield at secondary position

SDS

I went with Brett because I loved his SS card last year. I haven't been disappointed in the least, he hits for power and average, and his defense is great.

I think all the options listed above are can't miss cards. You need to decide if you want a LH or RH bat and go from there.

SDS

Nolan Gorman FS card would have been my answer until Brett came out. By far the best 3b I have used this year and is always one of my favorite cards each year because of his smooth swing.

SDS

I used Sheffield for most of the year so far, but recently he has been making costly errors on easy hit balls. I switched over to George Brett and his first game went 4/5 2hr on Hall of Fame. Definitely will be sticking with Brett.

SDS

Minnie Minoso is 3B as a secondary

SDS

Brett is amazing at 3rd

That is literally the opposite of what OP is looking for. I'd try Brett and if you end up not hitting well get in a larger sample sell for Schmidt and try to adapt your timing OP. I keep Brett and Killebrew on my team and Brett does pretty well on defense.

SDS

George Brett seems like the perfect fit for what you're asking for.

I've heard good things about the new Kris Bryant, too. Personally, I can't come off Sheffield at 3B.

SDS

Schmidt has been a beast for me.

SDS

How far are you from completing the NL ? If close id say save up and get sheffield

SDS

George Brett, Nolan Gorman, Kris Bryant all look great and they’ve all got good swings.

SDS

Defense doesn’t matter at 3rd, just need a good arm. Killebrew will still be amazing at 3rd.

Bellinger, Scherzer and Yelich is all I have left.

I went with Brett last night. Sniped it at 45k. So far, I'm really happy with it. Not sure Scheff displaces him when I get him and I worry about his defense there. I know a lot of people on this board say that defense doesn't matter at 3B, but I've seen otherwise. From myself and other players I've gone up against.

Could be part of the symptom of throwing pitches that go over too much of the plate, but at 3B - I don't like to risk it.

SDS

If you are looking for defense, contact, speed grab Kebryan Hayes ( Pirates affinity.)
