First Basemen

Fred McGriff
Pros: crushes RHP, never hurt me fielding wise, actually a favorite of mine who I generally rather play with than higher rated players I'm not a fan of
Cons: not great vs. LHP. Almost needing a platoon (I platoon sometimes with Molitor), slow. Not elite at anything really... Just very good
-
Jason Giambi
Pros: Massive power, hits everything in sight great for OPS and a clutch hitter when you need one. (best first baseman in the game so far in my opinion)
Cons: Very slow, it can be hard to get around the bases with him, he's not a great defender and will have his share of miscues. -

Prestige Todd Helton
Pros: makes great contact vs RHP. Diamond defender that makes plays.
Cons: slower than his attributes say I feel. Not a lot of power for a 1B. Doesn’t make consistent contact vs LHP. Not a great arm for cut offs.
He’s been my 1B all year. Tried McGriff because I’m a huge Braves fan, but realized I’d rather have good contact and solid defense from my 1B.

I can't hit with Stargell unfortunately, he's got a great card I just can't get his swing down I guess.

I've been using him for a while and I'm not a good hitter at all but he's been among the best on my team. I was worried about his defense initially and he does have his share of miscues for sure, but he is a little better than I originally was anticipating.

I've been thinking about giving Helton a try since the 1st inning rewards dropped. I like his contact stats and fielding, for sure, but 1b is a power premium position. Still might give him a try.

He's does a admirable job trying to make plays but he can have his share of um adventures that's call it. I've had a few where he turns his body and then just gives up (mind you that could be the fielding this year in general)

He’s been a staple for me. His reaction at the corner means a lot also!

Also he’s a 7-8 guy in the order. There’s plenty of power cards this year so it’s nice to have some contact at the bottom and a guy who will run into some bombs as well

I can only hit with him when the bases are empty. Offline, last check he had 12 HR and 17 RBI, online is a similar story.

I’ve only done it for the last few games but been running a platoon of Nolan Jones and Evan White.
Pros: both have terrific defense. White has 80 speed. Both hit as well as any other 1B I’ve used when they have the platoon advantage
Cons: taking up 2 roster spots for one position can be annoying and limit you later in the game

Filling out first base has been the one roster problem for me on the year. I've just never been fully content with whoever I've put there. Rather than ask who everyone is running at first base, what are some pros/cons of your current 1B?
Are you being for real? Are you throwing this post out to discuss the ROI of players in this game? There is none. The AI decides who gets the hits in what situations. Earlier in the year Saberhagen had the only 2 RBI's off me in a 2-0 game. The 2nd was a HomeRun. After the game I went out to Baseball-Reference and checked. Not only did Saberhagen never hit a HR in his MLB career..he never did in the minors. May have in High School, who knows,
Point is, card ratings are fairly irrelevant in this game. Get whatever 1B you like the looks of, Steve Garvey had several hot women in his career, even while married. Maybe pick him up due to his charisma with the babes. John Kruk was a pretty funny guy...loved his personality. Pick him up just because. And, if they aren't available now, perhaps they soon will be.
But, rest assured, the ratings on cards mean very little.

Bro get FOF Olson. Dude is a monster and so is FOF Bell
-
Nobody.....
David Ortiz was there for my first 50 games.
Now it's a revolving door -

it's like someone once told me about FIFA Soccer shortly after I added Messi to my lineup with a lucky card pull. Went on to lose more games with Messi than I won before I added him.
Messi, if you don't know soccer, is arguably the best player in the world.
So, I go off on a forum rant about the lack of impact cards have. Citing Messi as a valid argument. Guy replies, "It's a hopeless and randomized game. To keep your sanity create a team of players you like. When the AI gives you a win..be happy, when the AI hands you a loss at least you lost with a team of likable players" I don't like hardly any MLB players though. All a bunch of douches that, likely, go to etiquette school. Forbidden by their agents to show a personality.
Soccer players, though, have personality. I was able to create a team with guys like Ibrahimovic, Renaldo, Kimmich, etc. Played parity soccer which is typical in these online sports sims..it's how they're built. But, the erratic and questionable game play was a little easier to take.
So, uhhh. Wut.

Good stuff Gentlemen. Anyone have an in depth review of McCovey and Miggy?
