Buying stubs is for those who are impatient and who can/are willing to afford it. If you're having second thoughts on whether you should even buy stubs or not - and if you do - how to manage them, I have better advice for you:
Work the market and flip cards. You can make millions of free stubs this way, all it takes is time. -

The trick is to look for items with a relative large differential between the buy now and sell now. Look for differences of around 1K (that would be a great flip) or a couple of hundred stubs per order. The higher the better.
So in summary, you see an item on the market with a buy now price of 3K and a sell now price of 2K. In this case you wanna make a buy order for 2,001 stubs (so that you now have the highest sell now order), and when the order goes through you'll have bought the item for those 2,001 stubs. You then post it as a buy now item for 2,999 stubs (making your order the first buy now order) and when the order goes through, you have made yourself 698 stubs.
That's a solid take for one flip. You can keep doing this and there really is no limit to how much you can make. There's a guy called Trevteepz and he's pretty much the GOAT when it comes to flipping cards. He has 5 million stubs every year and all the cards you can buy. All you need is time and patience.
Edit: you do have to keep managing your orders if you get undercut by other people. That's just part of the process.

Not everyone has the time in there day to work the market or will to do it me included. I buy stubs when stubs sales happen so I can pick up the players I want and focus and relaxing and playing.
I agree it's very easy to make stubs and get everything you want but with kids and work it's less about patience and more about will lol

Your math is off on this. The 10% doesn't come off the profit, but rather the sale price. 10% of 2999 is 300, so his profit under this scenario is 698.

I wasn't trying to make it seems as if buying stubs is somehow bad, I meant more that it's somewhat of a luxury item if you for whatever reason are not able to do other things like playing the game or working the market. There's nothing wrong with buying stubs, but people who do can most definitely afford it and since this person specifically mentioned that he isn't sure whether he should go along with it or not, these are the words that I used.

You're absolutely right, my bad. No idea how I messed that up, because I do genuinely know how it works lol. Thanks for correcting me though.
I've corrected it in my initial comment.

I knew you knew how it works, but every now and then we all get a brain hiccup.

For sure and I was offering another perspective as well sorry if it came off as I was disputing or debating not my intention.
You are right it is a luxury and not required by any means I work the market hard in 18 with the souvenirs and had every card in the game so it's easily done like you said have to find the right cards to flip

I just lost 50 k posting arenado a day to early. I can never win with this game lol

This is me to a T...I play several video games, Not just the show. But when I do play the show I like to play a couple RS games each day. I am not willing to spend my time working the market, I just want to play baseball. So if there’s a player I really want to play with then I just buy stubs & then buy him.
