Can't pickoff... L2 does nothing

Maybe there is a setting that got changed or something, but pressing L2 on the mound in any game mode never prompts me to pickoff baserunners. This is especially frustrating in ranked matches because no one else seems to be having a problem with it.
I recently bought a new controller and none of my controllers let me pickoff... I know it's not a controller issue... L2 works fine any other time.... Please help -
