Is there anyone that has a definitive answer on how quick counts actually work ? I'm constantly in 0-2 and 1-2 counts and my opponents are always in 3-1, 3-2 or 3-0 counts. If I'm lucky they are 1-1. We're literally using the same cards. What determines this ?

I like to believe it rewards you for good at bats - getting more favorable counts if you have good at bats, but I think it's just completely random tbh.

probably something to do with previous at bats and pitcher confidence

I would think it has to be plain old RNG/luck of the draw, right? Basing the count on pitcher confidence would be really unfair because it’s a double boost to your opponent when confidence is low.

I think it has to be completely random.

Seems like earlier in the game is more 1-1 counts, later in the game seems to increase 2 strike counts and 2 ball and above counts. It may not, just seems like it does later in game.

So there's no reason at all why the game gives one team hitters counts and the other pitchers counts the entire game ? Strong work SDS.

    It ain’t random.

Back when they introduced in TS14 they said it was dependent on the batter and pitcher matchup... at the time because it was a bit of a selling point, I took that to mean much more than it probably is. I feel like I saw it in a pre-release stream (I’m hearing Nick and Ramone) but I don’t know if they even streamed back then. I don’t know what it was but I saw them say it. I know because they also said that it would result in slight increase in Ks and BBs, and I think this was observed in test data, assuming hundreds and thousands of simulations - possibly even in a Beta - can’t remember back that far.

Here’s the official ‘deep dive’ clip. It mentions an ‘algorithm’, which basically would involve (in my opinion) a simple random count generation based on the relevant pitcher attributes (maybe only BB/9) and hitter attributes (PVIS, DISC). That would be the superficial way to do it.

However, it may have been revised since then, although I don’t think it’s likely. If it were as superficial as I described above, I’d be overhauling it to take in many other factors. Pitcher energy, career matchups, game situation and clutch ratings... We should together create the perfect algorithm that we can then code and test hundreds of thousands of times then present it to the dev team for consideration.

This surely would be a subjective opinion. Would need to see some hard evidence to even consider this to be possible.

I don't know I fouled a pitch off in a 1-2 count and suddenly it was 2-2. I might have just lost my mind for a minute though. Glad I got the majority of the event wins out of the way early -- I'm not a fan of the current iteration.
