Ok, I've been playing a lot of vs CPU and Moments lately (working on affinity) and it has struck me that the difficulty level advertised is not consistent through the game modes.

I was wondering if anyone else has come to this conclusion or if it's just me.

For example, I've done more than enough vs CPU on rookie to tell you that Showdowns, when we are told that they are on Rookie, are NOT the same. The pitch speed is the same, but the pitcher is way less in the zone compared to vs CPU rookie and the ball just doesn't seem to fly off the bat the same way despite my being well times and PCI'd on the ball. Same with Moments. Stage 2 Moments were laughably easy for me on Veteran, yet in Showdown, veteran does not feel the same.

So am I tinfoiling here or is there something to it?

I thought the same thing for a while but I've been doing an experiment and tracking all my perfect/perfect hits across game modes and its pretty consistent. I couldn't beat showdown to save my life for the first few weeks but now I can win more than lose. Its all about plate discipline and no matter how well you see the pitch if its in the lower part of the zone you have to hold off if there is less than 2 strikes. Perfect/perfect hits in the bottom of the zone always get snagged by an infielder during showdown. The one thing I will say in showdown is that they definitely juice the fielders.

Not a secret that difficulties are not the same throughout the game and vary from mode to mode. Its pathetic but it is SDS way of doing things

Wow a rational person tracking perfect perfects instead of just complaining a game has broken hitting even though it’s completely OP IMO. Respect on tracking it I never thought of doing that I’m gonna try as well. I’ve tried explaining to people that it’s probably as simple as probability written into the games code for each contact result.

So far since I started tracking it the other day I'm 56 for 66 with 19 doubles, 3 triples and 18 Home Runs. One of the outs was a home run that someone jumped up and robbed. 3 outs on Perfect/Perfect Fly, 3 on Perfect/Perfect Liner and 4 on Perfect/Perfect Grounder.

im grinding showdowns and other game modes with the new programs vs the CPU, im gonna start tracking out of curiosity, i'd expect similar results give or take.

Yah, I decided to track it cause I was getting frustrated and saw everyone complaining about the hitting so I wanted to see if the game was actually screwing me or if I was just being pissy. Turned out I was just being pissy because what I've tracked is consistent with what they said you would hit on perfect/perfect hits

yea i think its similar(ish) to the complaints we saw all last yea about good squared outs. Yes they happen but if you hit the ball harder than your opponent more consistently you'll (usually) win. Which is pretty much like real baseball which is incredibly frustrating which people seem to sometimes forget.

No disrespect meant, but tracking your perfect hits, however noble, can not change what OP is describing, which is the difficulty levels do not play consistently throughout the modes.

Rookie, veteran, and All Star vary greatly in how they play from mode to mode. Moments and showdowns are the most egregious, but even conquest stronghold games, to some extent, are tweaked. Cpu defense is better, cpu pitchers are stingier, etc.

While I will concede that fielding is definitely juiced in showdown, as far as pitching goes does anyone ever think about the fact that in offline modes depending on which pitcher you choose you are not always facing a top pitcher, hence them not being as good or stingy. In showdown you will always be facing a top pitcher, so that is why they are better at pitching, because they are in fact better pitchers.

Well, that is somewhat true, but how does that explain when common and bronze pitchers throw absolute dots?

Everyone complains about hitting, but I think the true issue is bouncing around all the different programs and that each have their own uniqueness and difficulty level. By bouncing around and constantly playing different levels it makes it very difficult to maintain timing. I think players sometime confuse “the hitting is broken” paradox when in reality our timing is thrown off with the multiple difficulty levels we must play to obtain stubs & XP. Just a thought, not trying to upset anyone.

You’re right. My question would be why do all the modes have to play differently? I mean obviously, online there are connection issues but how hard is it to make veteran veteran and All Star all star? The problem, IMO, is the way the game is jacked in certain modes and still says a certain difficulty, when it is actually a modified version of that difficulty.

I understand what you mean, but that also may be a result of different pitchers attributes as well. Don’t get me wrong I notice the difference as well, but I tend to think it’s more me than anything else. More often than not as long as I’m patient and get myself ahead in the count regardless of the level I’ll generally be more successful than if I’m. Swinging too aggressively.

Having a good approach at the plate and being patient are great.

I still think calling out the game when it is obviously not playing within the normal range of the announced difficulty is important. I have no problem with it, other than the transparency. Don’t tell me the “Gallo’s Got Game” is on veteran and then have Yu Darvish plunk me, walk me, and throw absolute dots.

Even the relievers that come in after him, Rowan Wieck (OVR 69), Ryan Tepera (OVR 70), and Alec Mills (OVR 72) are all super stingy. It’s fine, and I don’t mind the challenge, but don’t tell me it’s veteran.
