How are online opponents picked?
-
Hello, long time offline player, noob to online play...
How are opponents found for online play? I ask because I have a good lineup (from offline play) but I suck (due to old age and poor reaction times).
For ranked seasons, I'm assuming you work your way up. Start easy and find more difficult opponents as you win.
For events, I'm assuming it's based on your lineup. Stronger overall rating means you're matched with people that have similar lineups.
Is that accurate? If it is, can I select worse players for events and (theoretically) be matched with weaker players?
Thanks.

In events it's based on how many wins you have in your current run. In your first game you usually get matched up with someone who is also in their first game. If you are 6-1, you'll likely be matched up with someone who has around 6 wins also. It's all about how many wins you have in your current run. I don't believe player overalls have much to do with it and would advise you to field the best team you can.

It's 100% about how many games you win. As you win, your ranking goes up, as you lose, your ranking goes down. You match up with people that have a similar ranking. It does not matter how "good" or "bad" your team is.

@InigoMontoya_75 i recommend turning your messages off for event play. You will be bombarded by beggars

When you say old? Can we get a number? Lol I am 33 -
I find it hard to have a good record based on the ranked seasons match making. Win a few games then you have to play someone who is going to be in a much higher division. It’s hard to get away from Being ..500"

Can anyone elaborate on the modified ratings or whatever (+150). That kinda penalizes you for having great cards right?

Yes but most people have great cards so it’s nearly irrelevant. The modified rating is just added to whatever your current ranking is. So if your 400 in ranked season with a +150 your are at a 550 rating, and the match making will start the search a few points below and above 550. I say start because it expands over time lower and higher until you find a match, so if you want the most even match up, hold the left stick to the left when you start searching and it will stop it at the base match making. It might take an extra 30 seconds to find a game you’ll search between 480-620 rating, if you let it expand it will say 300-800 you could find someone in the 700-800 hundreds.
The best team in the game vs the worst team in the game will only change your rating one division at most which is a few game win streak. No reason to not play your best players all the time.

Does the player's location play into ranked season matchmaking at all? I live in Michigan and I seem to get matched up against quite a few michigan, ohio or canada-themed teams. Just curious if that's by design or random coincidence.

It’s just because we play on east coast servers so the game try’s to match you up with people in the same region for connection purposes.
