How do you guys play on such a small screen? I play on a 60 inch and couldn’t imagine having to sit so close to the screen while playing on a monitor.
-
It really helps. I swapped to a monitor for 19 and my career BA went up 40+points
-
Just sit closer to it, you'll adjust quickly.

I did not realize how big of a deal this is. For months I have been playing on my 24 inch monitor, about 5 feet away, and I usually struggle to catch up to the fastball and it has been difficult to read the pitch at times. This week however, while visiting my family's house, I have been playing on their 40" TV and I rarely strike out, I read the pitch much quicker, and have therefore hit much better.
-
Interesting. Usually the TV has more delay and so it's harder to hit. Was it a newer TV? Game mode? I have a 28" monitor and couldn't imagine going back to a TV.

It is a newer TV with game mode on, so I am sure that helps, but sitting in front of the bigger screen more than makes up for any input lag, from what I can tell with limited experience.

I am actually saving for the LG CX 48 inch TV....With a low input lag of 11ms, HDMI 2.1, ALLM, VRR (Freesync), 4k @ 120hz, etc... This TV is arguably best "monitor" for the ps5, at the moment.

4k @ 120hz with that HDMI 2.1 and only 11ms input lag sounds like a big W. I haven't been able to find a monitor with those specs... finding the HDMI 2.1 is the issue. So I'll keep waiting till they drop a monitor that checks all my boxes.
LG CX, huh? I'm gonna check it out. How much is it? Probably pretty expensive with specs like that, yeah?

beware of burn in on OLEDs, while I'll admit, loved the lower input lag of my 65" LG OLED, if I didn't have the extended warranty, the burn in from MLB the show last year would have cost me $2k to replace the screen. Needless to say, my ps4 doesn't get connected to that TV anymore

Oof. Was it really that bad?

Unfortunately yes, at least in my experience. My 2016 65" LG oled developed burn-in after a couple of years, but thankfully my warranty through Best Buy covered it, and they eventually replaced it with a new 2020 LG GX 65" (after a couple of visits and an attempted repair). Our new one is now being used as our family TV, not games.
The 48", that I am hoping to get, is around $1,500, so that is a steep price to pay for a game "monitor". While any OLED is still at risk for burn-in, I read that the newer LG models were not as suspect to that, as the '16 ones were. The newer ones have a pixel refresher, screen shift, and logo luminous control....so those things, along with running a screen saver, should help prevent that....we'll see.
If you are concerned about the burn-in, which is definitely understandable, you could always wait for a true gaming monitor with HDMI 2.1 to come out, probably by 1st or 2nd quarter 2021 (Eve Spectrum, Asus ROG, Acer Nitro, etc.).

Yeah. I've been waiting for an HDMI 2.1 monitor. The Eve Spectrum looks awesome but I've heard sketchy things about them not following through on deals or pushing things back over and over. One will get here though.

1440p is the sweet spot for monitors. Sony has already said if demand is there they’ll patch in 1440p and demand is definitely there. Technology is pretty early for monitors and games to run at 4K 120fps. Many games right now are still 60 fps. 1440p at 120 fps is much easier on everything right now.
It will probably be a couple years for game companies and monitor/tv companies to catch up to what the PS5 is capable of. A $1k monitor today will probably be around $400 in 18-24 months.

I've played this game on a ton of different displays so I'll leave my input here, take it or leave it idc.
60 inch vizio led tv 1080p terrible $700 10 years ago
27 inch 1080p acer nitro ips monitor was great, good colors response time is fine, what I use now and have been for a year $250
43 inch tcl 43s525 4k tv was also very good, used this for months no issues $250
65 inch hisense H9g was also very good, no issues $1,000
55 inch lg cx oled, amazing so far, very good looking, smooth and responsive, no sign of burn in. Newer models are way better $1300
27 inch Viotek gft27db 1080p tn monitor, very fast resonse times, color was trash tho $250
34 inch monoprice 3440x1440 Va monitor, god awful ghosting, colors were great but hard to play on it $450I use to think playing on a monitor would make me better and it didn't. I have the TCL 43 inch and the acer in the same room next to each other and have went back and forth game after game and dont notice a big difference.
I think the biggest issue is people using junk monitors or [censored] tv's. A bad tv or monitor wont provide a good experience with this game, you need something decent. Input lag is key here, the higher it is the worse you'll bat. Next is response time

If you guys want a cheap alternative to the CX (which is undoubtedly one of the best TV’s on the market), tou can look into the LG Nanocell. It was HDMI 2.1 so it will do 4K @ 120Hz. Low refresh rate, fast response times. It’s not an extremely bright TV so it won’t look too good for dark gaming. But it does everything you would want your PS5 to do. It’s also an IPS panel so no risk of burn in.
The 48” is on sale right now at BB for 799$, the 55” for 899$.
I’m gonna be getting the 48” as my main gaming monitor and get the 65” CX as my main family TV with the very occasional gaming on it. Like others have said, the newer models have much better protection against burn in. If you play different games, watch different channels and such, shouldn’t be a problem

Got a nice LG 27" monitor for christmas and pretty much echo others sentiments about it being a game changer. Have a nice 55" LG OLED TV too that I bought in Aug as it was rated very well for gaming. Monitor kicks its [censored]. Might also be something to fact that I'm like 2 feet away from the monitor compared to on my couch with the TV too.....
-
Distance from the screen is everything. Can't compare a 24 or 27 inch monitor that you sit 2 feet away from to a 60 inch tv that you sit 8-10 feet away from

AOC U3277PWQU UHD Professional Monitor
Beautiful monitor for rpg games. Input lag is lacking. Bought monitor a year ago and used it few months. Input lag for show was not ideal according to specs , so bought new one. Dusted this monitor off when I got ps5. Games are looking great.

Yeah it's a 4k VA panel, games will look great on it but your input lag and response time are probably pretty bad on it
-
I can't even imagine playing on a big screen. Monitor is definitely the way to go.
