Why Does holding R2 still affect the pitcher?? I've never understood why this was an option. The main use of this is to f--- with the other guy you're playing. There's plenty of stats shown during the batter's walkup, but if you really need to see more, just pause it. Pausing is annoying too, but at least there's a timer and it doesn't interrupt your attempt to pitch. It is so annoying playing some immature kid who holds R2 and does the bunt dance for half the game. I'm sure it won't change, but wanted to vent since I just played someone who did this for the last five innings as soon as he lost the lead. Does anyone have a good reason for keeping this in the game?

I think the same argument could be given to balkless pitching.
It’s a tactic. It’s to throw off rhythm. It’s to counteract the lack of balks. It’s to take a breather.

It's to see what the pitcher has in his arsenal.

I understand the use of it. I'm just talking about people abusing it. The pitcher's arsenal is shown when he comes in....as well as on the pause screen. No need to constantly check it. If someone doesn't remember, they've got bigger issues 🙂

Well, you were the better player, so they were indeed trying to mess with you or trying to find a way to come back. By messing with you.

I like the option. In deep pitch counts I will use R2 to try to pick up tendencies and cold spots. I can’t remember a 7 pitch sequence so this option helps. I use it mb 1 per 8 at bat and when I do so I try to do quickly as possible. I’m not doing it to pi$$ you off. People who hold it down for insane amount of time are those ones

Really no different then a batter adjusting his gloves taking forever in the box IRL

It’s tough bc especially on a full count I want to look at what has been thrown. R2 is the only way to do that

It also shows what the pitcher threw in the previous at bat.

Personally, the only time I ever hold it for more than just a moment to check previous pitches, is when my opponent is machine gun rapid fire pitching me with slidestep and not coming set.

I played some idiot last night who literally held R2 on every single pitch. Then he tried to trick me into a friendly quit by running the clock down to 1 second and pressing "confirm friendly quit." I didn't fall for it, but I'm sure others do. Why doesn't MLB The Show crack down on cheaters?

By the way it's completely insane this hasn't been eliminated from the game. You should only be able to hold R2 for the first inning a given pitcher is in the game to see what he throws. There is no justification for it being able to mess up opposing pitchers online after this. If you want to view additional data, a pause should be required.

It does contain useful information such as confidence and pitch sequence, it’s a shame that it’s probably used more often for aggravation

I agree. And I'm all in favor of making that information available, but it should require use of a player's pause time. You could limit R2 to only the first inning or even batter a pitcher is in the game, then require a pause thereafter. Easy fix.

R2 helps to see pitch locations and types from the previous at bat. I check it very briefly at the start of an AB. Like a blip. If that messes you up it is because of a deliberate quick pitch of you can even select and choose location that quick.

It also helps to see the command meter on each pitch.

Abusing it to stall or F with the pitcher is bad. But briefly checking quickly is 100% legit.

The fix for this is for them to not make it impede the pitcher.

This post is reasonable and I think something everyone can agree on.

Sorry, when you said you didn't understand why it was an option I gathered you didn't understand why it was an option. My mistake.

Unfortunately the only way to see your opponents confidence in each pitch is by pressing R2 i believe. I find myself tapping this frequently, but I try to be respectful when I do and just glance at it.

It's amazing how everyone seems to think this is solely there to cause then problems. Stop making everything you can't handle out to be cheap. Myself and a lot of other players like to use this to track your habits in real time. To check your pattern in real time without wasting pause time. Hell, we even use it to disrupt timing on quick pitch spammers who never come set because for some reason balks haven't been in online play since 16 when you had to set up your matchmaking settings. Yes, there are people who will use it to get into your head, because clearly it works. That being said, just because you don't like how a small number of players use the feature doesn't mean it should be removed. Especially given the information it can provide. Instead of removing the feature I would rather see actual baseball played and balks be turned back on. It makes no sense to completely omit a rule of the game just because the casual fan didn't understand it. This is why you have tutorial sequences, which this game is notorious for showing to players during the initial load up and install. The problem doesn't lie in the use of the pitch check feature on R2, but your own impatience to wait 4 whole seconds before you can throw your pitch. If you don't have enough patience and sportsmanship to handle that, you may be playing the wrong sport champ. Baseball just may not be the game for you.
