Broken online hitting

I've tried that, and sure sometimes I am getting sloppy in my approach. But the game just feels completely different the last couple weeks. I mean, yesterday I beat a guy who was like 45-14 in RS and he couldn't touch my pitchers. Then I face a guy who's like 90-80 or something and he's having no problem. I notice the crazy inconsistency in my opponents too.
Also, I always warm up by facing tough pitchers like Chapman, Bob Gibson, etc in practice mode on HoF with fastball velocity slider turned all the way up. Then, when I get into an online game, sometimes it feels like the ball is coming in faster from a guy throwing 95 on legend than it was on HoF with the sliders turned up. That just doesn't make sense. I think it's a server issue.

yes broken again and again
lets f the gameplay

I believe it’s down to the quality of the connection between you and your opponent. I’ve thought about it a lot lately, given that issues are seemingly exacerbated this year in comparison to other editions and I’ve come up with a few solid facts that seem to bear that out, to my mind at least.
• As said in this thread, swing timing windows, quality of contact on pitches that seem to be perfectly squared up, pitches missing locations and strange animations and errors all vary from game to game. One game everything is fine, the next it’s an absolute [censored] show that makes you want to quit playing.
• The quality of a P2P connection is totally beyond SDS ability to control. If they could prevent these issues which have plagued the game for years, they would. They haven’t and for good reason - It’s simply not within their control.
• Offline plays pretty well compared to DD every year.
• None of the problems we experience are apparent to SDS during their testing, which is, of course, done on a closed network with optimal connections and minimal traffic. It’s only when the game has to be played in the real world that quality of the gameplay experience begins to degrade significantly.
The first point is the biggest giveaway to me, although the second also adds weight.

I agree with you. Ranked has been super inconsistent this year when it pertains to hitting. I don’t recall having this problem at all with 19. I’m assuming it’s a server issue that causes this inconsistency, ping rate or the quality of your opponents connection to the server. I also use a wired connection. My sons play fortnite and at the top of the screen it shows your ping rate. It usually goes anywhere from 0 to less than 30 and they’re using a wireless connection on an Xbox one. This is the one aspect of the game I really wish they can get under control.

Timing issues and hitter feedback changes from game to game because of quality of connection and ping. You either adjust or you dont. Its frustrating but it is what it is.

Do you recall this happening in 19? I don’t really remember this being an issue.

Its always been there...but I think it stands out more this year for some reason.

Probably because timing windows are smaller this year
-
Yeah, I wish those of us with good connections (I’m wired in with fast internet) could filter our opponents by connection/ping...
I know this has always been an issue, like i said, I’ve played the game for years and I’ve never had it be this bad. I’ve been someone that can consistently win 2 out of 3 games and make World Series. It’s not like I don’t know what I’m doing.
Also, SDS should disable major league stadiums for RS games. Minor league only.

Probably. This also occurred to me in relation to hitting. Someone on reddit timed a 102mph fastball from hand to plate and it was roughly 540ms on HoF. That was from hand to plate so I can’t imagine how narrow the window for a well timed swing must be. Bottom line is, when you’re talking about such microscopic windows of time, even a small fluctuation can cause major imbalances in timing and there is absolutely no way to fix it. It just is what it is.

You could get rid of MLB stadiums in RS games and you could allow guaranteed friendly quits if connection/ping doesn’t meet a certain standard. There are things they could do. Those are just a couple ideas. Or at least give us a connection status before we accept a match, like they do in other games.

SDS aren’t going to do anything of the sort, in fact if they had any intention of doing so, it would have been done years ago. Why? Because it would ensure that a fair percentage of the playerbase would never be able to play an online game. Nobody would take a game from someone with bad internet or they’d get multiple forced friendly quits every time they did get a game. It would alienate a subsection of DD players. So they won’t.

Well they are currently alienating me, so I guess it’s a double edged sword.
