Same reason why they butchered Nolan Arenados fielding/reaction for YEARS. They finally got it right this year.

But the reason is to manipulate the overall to SDS’ liking. It sucks, I know.

Just like when we have roster updates, they would refuse to drop guys to gold or make golds diamonds because of the way it would effect the market.

This may be partly true, but I think they go off advanced metrics more than the eye test.
Arenado is a great example. Some people lost their minds when they dropped him down, but the year before (2018) he had just above average DRS and UZR... Statistically they were right. Then Arenado was great again in 2019.
Yelich is a middling defender. And he has never had a great arm.. so this is mostly accurate.

Manny Machado had 90 fielding last year while Nolan had 80. It is completely bias.

Same thing with Acuna last year. They did not give him justice with his fielding/arm until late last year.

There are numerous examples. They might use advanced stats as a general guideline, but at the end of the day, they do whatever they want and whatever benefits them.

Here’s another one... SS Tulo last year. How in the **** did he have 89 fielding?

This is a perfect example of perception over reality... Thank you.

First of all, Tulo was an excellent defender!!
41.4 UZR, and 94 Defensive runs saved through his career. He should be 90+ if anything.

And Machado and Arenado have similar 3B metrics. Machado was brutal at SS though

No I didn't. Machado and Arenado at 3B are more equal than you thought they should be.. did I read that wrong?

And I thought you were saying Tulo shouldn't be a good fielder.. I think I may have read your comment wrong here lol

No that’s exactly what I was saying. Tulo got shafted just so they didn’t give him diamond fielding. And if Machado and Arenado are similar... why was Machado rated a 90 fielding, when Arenado was an 80? That is absurd to think Machado is 10 points higher than Arenado at fielding.

Ya 10 points may be a stretch, but I assumed because they didn't have metrics to go off of Machado at 3B they left him..
And Arenado did not have an "Arenado year in the field that one season. He was average.

Yelich has been a below avg fielder his entire career, not terrible, but certainly below average. I haven't played with him yet this year so I can't speak on how bad he is defensively. I think Charlie Blackmon is far worse though

Actually, Christian Yelich played a gold glove centerfield not too long ago back in Miami. Albeit before he became the MVP player he is today. He’s been solid throughout his career. That’s just from the games I’ve seen him play. SDS is unfortunately keeping his fielding low to avoid him being a 90 or 91 ovr.

Yep that’s exactly it. The players who hover around different tiers of cards get their ratings manipulated.

How did Mookie suddenly lose a ton of arm strength? Well because SDS wants him to be an 89 instead of a 90+.

they need to go the 2k route. 2k added an "intangibles" rating couple years ago. Which does nothing but effect overall. So you could basically give cards their best attributes and adjust the overall if its to high or too low

Being awarded a gold glove these days is very different than actually PLAYING gold glove defense.......

They said that they have used more advanced metrics for fielding this year than in years before. If a card sucks on defense, its because the advanced stats say he sucks.
