Struggling with Newhouser
-
He his my only starter below .500 and it feels like my opponent either can't hit him at all or completely lights him up. Part of it might be bad luck with me not being able to score when he starts, but a record of 2-9 is just jarring to me.
I really don't want to take him out of my rotation, but I'm almost to that point as I think this is a good enough sample size. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to pitch well with him?

Record is pretty irrelevant. What’s your ERA with him?
-
So I jam inside on righties and against lefties throw low away. I’ve had decent outcomes with him. Many people can’t solve him.
-
Newhouser is nasty its just that his offspeed pitches are so hard to control that u can only throw the fastball and sooner or later the opponent will catch on to it.
-
Most lineups are righty heavy, that’s part of it
-
Trade him out for someone like Graterol, who will be a much bigger name in baseball lore.

ERA is 4.4 which is much too high for my offesnse in most games. I have a 2.1 ERA with Kluber and I would hope Newhouser would be much closer to Kluber.
I agree with the comment that most lineups are righty heavy. I think that has a lot to do with it.

Its hard to properly give advice since I have no idea how you are pitching with him. Are you often missing spots? Too predictable? Maybe part of it is just being unlucky. There are plenty of good cards in the game that some people struggle with.
Do you find certain pitches getting hit more? Do you feature the fastball too much that players just sit on that instead? Best advice I can give is to just try and keep mixing it up, both locations and pitch types and pray you don't hang anything.

That is a little on the high side. You might be able to find someone else you do better with.
I haven’t been able to find too many reliable starting pitchers. Kluber, Oswalt, and Ohtani are the only guys I feel somewhat confident with. Haven’t picked Newhouser yet.
Sometimes it can just take more time pitching with someone before you really figure out good pitching sequences and what works. It might be worth sticking it out a bit longer since he is a top rated pitcher for the foreseeable future.
It’s also hard to really know. Like Chris Sale. Some guys can’t touch him, other guys destroy him. Newhouser usually shuts me down pretty well until the 5th or 6th inning and then I end up blowing him out.

I think it it might be me relying on the fastball too much, particularly on the outside edges against righties. I freak myself out thinking people are sitting inside FB, then they hit one out to the opposite field.

In all fairness, I think a lot of players do sit high and/or inside because its hard to catch up to on pure reaction. That said outside heaters are effective but the downside is that its a bit forgiving since being slightly late is actually beneficial since you want to go the other way.
Its why I get so annoyed at guys that pull outside pitches that are running away and hit HRs on early swings. They should be rolling over or hitting balls off the end of the bat.
