I don't understand the outrage over this. They are just different color cards right? If you want them cool, if not just ignore it.

Yeah that's fair. If they end up being needed for collections then I get it. Especially if they are hard to get. I honestly don't really know if they are or not because I haven't even looked at it.

Basically it is 25k for a random voucher that you can turn into the alternate version assuming you have unlocked the free Spooky player in the program.

I’m assuming it’s impossible to pull Randy Johnson, Polanco and Santana. The alternate versions of Polanco and Santana are 300K. Randy is a million.

They say 1000:1 for Randy and 12:1 for the other two.

I pulled Polanco and sold him… not a fan of the variant design. Prefer the original.

Please correct me if I’m wrong but the only way to get a voucher pack is to exchange certain duplicate or “uncollected” cards from sets. I was lucky enough to have just enough duplicates (mainly Topps Now) that qualified for two voucher packs which I paired with the base cards to collect two variants. The remaining cards that qualify for exchanges are all the voucher set cards I collected after Ben so I’m done for the time being. I hope none of these are required for the next collection as well as the Red Roch Draft card. At least that card has the same attributes. I took a look at the Sheff variant and his numbers are worse so this seems way more of a Trick to me than a Treat so no thank you. Enjoy that extra hour of sleep tomorrow night, Friends.

That’s the second time I’ve pulled Judge in the past week or so. No more complaining about those diabolical Spooky Variants for me! Ha ha

I like the idea of variants and rarer cards, but these ones are kind of underwhelming. Maybe it's just because I'm a sucker for anything animated, but I just see missed potential. Imagine instead of getting a red filter or Mr. negative filter we got some animations. The caution tape swaying or slowly ripping apart, and some gloomy weather in the background. Then the pumpkins could have their candles slowly burn out and a spider crawl across the web.
Even with the first variant, Roch Cholowsky, my critique was to make it different then just highlighting the new "red diamond" gimmick since it just doesn't look appealing to me. Red Diamonds are kind of just a new filter for diamonds so don't really see the point of them existing. I suggested to keep the diamond theming, but have it be black and white since it was a White Sox card, and then it would be a 99 Black Diamond and team specific.
I really just like animated cards though, my favorite card art was the animated All-Star game ones. And of course Finest is always amazing to me. Will I still try to get all the spooky variants? Yes, if I have extra stubs lying around after Finest 2026. I guess the filters just aren't enough of an immediate chase for me, but atleast they are trying something different. They started it perfectly last year with the ranked 1000 card art (which I will never be good enough to get), just hope they maybe put a bit more effort into the cards they make variants for in the future.

I’m waiting for Chipper’s price to come down but with that said, I’m raking with Teddy. It’s going to be hard to put Chipper in when I get him because Post Season Ramirez has been a beast for me. -

Thats funny, because I just pulled a Judge from a Show pack yesterday to. First pull of either of the two big live series all year.

Other than poor explanation, I don't see the issue. They are trying something new.
2K has expanded their 'holo' concept into other optional visual variants (which they call parallels but are really skins) and it seems to have gone over well. I'm all for SDS expanding in this way too but they should have it be a toggle and not separate cards in your binder

Question - if you didn’t want to deal with the variants but they become necessary for collections, instead of making exchanges for the vouchers (which amounts to real stub value,) could you replay the Diamond Quest over and over and exchange those dupes?

@PapaRick68_MLBTS I'm there with you. The kids stopped playing this game with me last year over things they found frustrating with trying to earn the cards for collecting. This year has been a drag for me and this program will most likely send me packing.
