Imagine if Pitching was Actually a skill like hitting.

@I23SAVAGE23I_XBL It’s absolutely a skill. The skills are just choices rather than stick skills.

I see what you are saying, but I disagree. There should be some repeatable skill combined with that aspect besides pinpoint.
By your logic we may as well just use traditional, aim and select pitch.
-
They made that new pitching method way too easy, every opponent hits "perfect" 90% of the time and here I am still on meter pitching lol.
-
Totally agree. Pitching and fielding have never ever been a really valued part of any baseball game.
Yes, there are plenty of people who screw up those things (especially inexperienced players)- but thats mostly cause theyre silly. Its not a skill thing - pitching and fielding could both use a method that really distinguishes player skill.
-
Zone hitting is cool because it feels right for a video game version of baseball
Pinpoint pitching feels absolutely terrible and detached from the game of baseball. It is meant to try to add skill to the detriment of the game (I dont use it because its so dumb).
Not sure what they could do to create artificial "skill" requirements to avoid this disconnect.

Pitching hasn't been a skill in years, same with hitting. Nothing but velocity/injuries (Tommy John should collect royalties at this point) and nothing but swinging for the fences/striking out 150+ times a year. Modern baseball is garbage.
-
@MNKgod1979_MLBTS it’s really not

Have you watched the Rockies play recently? I think you would probably enjoy them offensively.

Go join a men's league then so you can show us your skill...

Not sure what you’re disagreeing with. It’s a fact that pitch selection, location and execution are a skill. Otherwise we’d all be rolling around with similar ERA’s online. I pitch almost exclusively on all star and have great success. Pinpoint adds some level of stick skills, albeit limited. I’d like to see the meta pitches increase in difficulty though. It’s never made sense to me that the worst pitches like slurves have the most difficulty. Make sinkers and cutters more difficult.
-
@ryguy034753_XBL Switch to pinpoint. It’s a big difference. It might not seem like it when you’re not good at it, but it’s significantly better. It took me way too long to realize it. It took me too long to convince my brother and coop partner, but we’re both so much better now.

Analog is where its at. And yes it absolutely takes skill
-
@SpawnOfDitka_XBL Analog might be better for some people that aren’t good at pinpoint, but pinpoint has the smallest PAR’s.
-
The problem is you’re not really rewarded for throwing a perfect. It’s just going somewhere in the PAR not necessarily where you want it. So pitching is just kinda rng where your perfect will end up in the PAR. On the flip side of that if you could put it wherever you want I feel it would not be good for the game
-
@Joeflakes_XBL And the size of PAR’s depend on player ratings. It’s a pretty good system when it works properly.

The problem is when it feels like the game is working against you and the ball consistently goes in an unfavorable area within the PAR.

@GoozeFn_PSN i dont think the pars work properly on analog. They are bigger, but If i perfect or even really good the pitch. The pitch goes exactly where I want it to go. Literally every time. Never a missed location. I also think analog maybe harder than pin point to execute. Maybe thats why. Harder to get perfects on anolog. But i use it because if I hit it. It goes exactly where I want it. The only time the pitch is off is when I dont execute properly.
-
@GoozeFn_PSN yea this is my exact point, pinpoint is very easy once you know what to do and you will hit perfects very consistently.
It's like the moonshit event we just did all of my opponents are dotting the corners using 69 overall pitchers with 50 control. Doesn't really make sense to have that kind of accuracy...
-
Pitching is absolutely a skill in this game. You have to understand how to tunnel pitches, read your opponents tendencies and know how to stay out of patterns.
For the first time ever I played some co op with randoms when finishing the June Countdown program. No disrespect intended but playing with those lower rated players, yeah, pitching is absolutely a skill in this game
-
@doobiebross66-72_PSN I fully agree with your post.
But theres not much skill in actually doing the pitching or fielding - actually performing the inputs. That seems silly to me in a game where batting takes a ton of input skill.
