Comparison with other sports games (CFB)
-
As I start to play some ncaa football, I'm reminded of a few things.
-
The Show has laggy menus - but not nearly as bad as the UI gets in ncaa and madden (especially in ultimate team).
-
There are more glitches and broken plays in the football games in one week than there are in the show all year. (For heavens sake, they literally removed the kickoff because some turkey figured out a glitch to always get the ball!). Its all meta and knowing the meta...all the time. Nobody ever dares nerf the meta.
-
Gameplay in the show has a way greater chance of looking realistic (like something that could actually happen) than the football games.
-
Bots are everywhere in all games. However, no money spent is hopeless in other games, and very possible in the show.
I know some of these comparisons may be because the show is way behind graphically - and baseball perhaps just naturally plays better in video game format than other sports. But, stilll.... the usual complaints in here are very very present in other sports games.
Especially in Online Multiplayer - it is a miserable slog most of the time in most games. And getting worse by the day.

I have both CFB 26 and 27, and I must tell the plain truth, both of those games put MLB The Show to shame! The reasons are many:
-
Immersion: The entire point and goal of any RPG game, especially sports games, is to allow the customer to vicariously play the game at a level he likely was unable to attain in real life. Consequently, the more immersive the game experience, the better this goal is achieved. CFB puts The Show to shame on this one. The options for developing your avatar player in CFB are vastly superior to the setup in MLB The Show. And this is where CFB 27 actually significantly improved upon CFB 26, showing that the studio working that game title understands that to keep the title vibrant, there must be equal devotion to upgrading the offline games modes as there is in upgrading the online modes.
-
Graphics: Contrary to the OP's assertion, owning each game title (though not MLB 26), the graphics are far more detailed and robust in CFB. Players actually are affected by rain soaked fields. Balls hydroplane, and rooster tails are kicked up as well as splashed. The rain soaks uniforms, and on grass fields mud appears where there used to be clean grass. Objects like helmets and even trainer's tables bead up with water just like in real life. MLB the Show has rain as an afterthought, with only the minimal visual of rain splatters on the field with zero effect on game play. Yet, in baseball, rain effects game play more than it does in football -- thus this is a multiyear miss by SDS.
-
Awards: No contest again. The setup vignettes scenes in CFB 27 for the award of the Heisman is vastly superior to anything ever done in MLB The Show. Truth is, every coder and manager at SDS should be forced to play CFB 27 just to see how far behind they truly are. Every collegiate football award is correctly modeled, with each having a detailed description of the heraldry and history of the awards. You see at the end of each regular season not only who won, but the top 12 players for each trophy.
-
Gameplay: Again, hands down winner in comparison is CFB, especially CFB 27. It's night and day folks! In CFB your avatar player shows clear signs of injury, such as going from fleet footed to sluggish, and the players even rub injuries and try to "work it out" just as in real life. The game play is smooth. Never jittery and no in game freezes, partial nor lengthy. Yes, sometimes the game will glitch and go to the main console screen, or shut down the console. But, this happens one in fifty games and can be avoided simply by avoiding the play of several consecutive games without restarting the console.
-
Team and coach interaction: Holy smokes! There is simply no comparison here folks! You throw a pick, and the scene on the field plays out with your coach giving you an ear full on the sidelines, just like real life. However, you secure a TD pass or make a critical first down play and your coach will chest bump you or pat you on the shoulder pads. That's just the start. Between games there are detailed exchanges with the head coach and coordinator about game goals, expectations, and frank explanation of team standards. Each week you are presented with opportunities to make one of several different decisions, each carrying relative rewards or punishments of various degrees. Poor play will actually get you a terse warning from the head coach that you need to "get it together," and not after you threw for 400 yards and five TD passes! But, after your development stagnates and your on-the-field performance truly slides. On the other hand, excellent game play and decisions with your teammates and college academic experience earns plaudits. Compare this to the often clumsy scenes in MLB The Show where you are hitting .385 on pace for 35 homers and 100 RBI and the manger tells you your performance must improve! There is nothing phony in CFB.

I loved CFB 25 (Only played dynasty mode. I have zero interest in ultimate team modes where nms isn't a viable option) but haven't bought the game since, because it doesn't seem like they've improved it at all. Just going by what I've read, it seems like you're pretty much just paying for the same exact game with a roster update every year. I'll pass on that.
-
@whitejw98_MLBTS well, the "its just a roster update" complaint holds very true across every sports game with an annual release cycle (all of the big ones)
-
@PriorFir4383355_XBL you don’t even play the show. Also gameplay in both Madden and CFB are terrible. It’s about about meta plays and broken mechanics.

@priorfir4383355_xbl returns with stupid claims!

Do you know how often people punt in college football online? They dont. Third and 15 at your own 25? Go for it!
Don't get me wrong, I like the game, and it has GREAT presentation qualities - but online gameplay is a whole bunch of meta and arcadey silliness
-
NHL and The Show have a huge barrier to entry. The other games - if youre an ok video game player, you can learn a few plays, learn controls, and compete with decent players right away.
In The Show and NHL, you're just gonna get your doors blown off for months while you figure out how to do the most basic things in the game (i.e. hit the ball).
-
@rubicante23_PSN Fair point, but CFB's lack of an ultimate team mode that's worth playing makes it a much bigger issue. Unless there's some cool new stuff I can do in 27's dynasty mode that I can't already do in 25, then I'll pass.

Is this trolling or serious?
injury animations is gameplay? Shutting down a console is no big deal?

4th and 30? Screw it, Justin Jefferson has to be down there somewhere.
